Really liked seeing what's left of the old Kindsbach COC. I was there from '64-'67 with the forecast center (Det 21, 31st Weather Sq.) The first pic on the second page is almost surely a view taken from within where the center was located in those days. Also liked the pic of the mess hall, where they served really good meals in those days. Had hoped to get back there someday, but looks like I won't get to see the old COC if I do. Jchemiker

Here is a little info about the the Gen. Walker, I worked there for 2 yrs from 1994 to 1996 and It was wonderful. and If I remember right in 1996 AFRC closed it and reopened the resort on Cheimsee and spent 2 million to renovate it. At the time the Walker closed it was sad to see all the valuable items seemingly disappear from day to day, My job there was to empty the hotel all the rooms, everything out. I havenīt went back there since even though i still live and work in Germany. But I mean to one of these days.

The ramp in Pruem was to hold the trailer with the radar antenna. The 615th AC&W squadron was a mobile unit and therefore the antenne was mounted on a trailer. The building below the ramp housed two 100KW generators that provided the power for the radar equipment. I was the ground equipment maintenance officer from 1957 to 1960. djlake35

I absolutely love the Hahn pictures. My dad, mom, brother and I went there in 79, my parents divorced in 81 and my mom had already met my stepdad there, whom she married in 82, so we went right back over there to Hahn. I graduated high school in 83. My uncle on my mom's side was stationed there too, and he sent me this link to your albums. Thank you SOOOOOO much!!

Thanks for the memories I had with my husband back in 1970 before he passed away over there. He had a stroke while in Fischbach & later died in Landstudl. So these touched my heart thanks again. Would love to be your friend. Mary Ann

When I was in Germany (92-98) the garage to the Burghof was still pretty much intact. There were three window openings on the down hill side that you could climb through. Than in the back corner, pipes came out of one wall, turned, and went into a hole through the other wall. That whole was large enough to get through by grabbing hold of the pipe and lifting yourself up and through the hole. Mind you the walls were about three feet thick and pitch black on the other side of the wall. There's a picture of the hole and what it looked like on the other side of the wall in my "Hitler's Burghof ruins folder.

The Gen. Walker was built in Nazi architecture. Therefore when we gave it back to the Germans they were they tore the darn thing down. I was sad to hear they did that.

I'll have to check out the USARMYGERMANY.COM. I spent 6 years Stuttgart, and like you, traveled anytime I could.

I went to 1st thru 3rd grade at Bitburg (1st grade) and then Trier when it opened. There were 5 buildings at that time, and a power plant of some kind. I think we were there from '52-'55. We returned to Germany for a secound tour 62 - 66. We were stationed at Spangdahlem AFB, but we (my two younger sisters and I) went to high school in Bitburg. I graduated in 66 from the same school that I went to 1st grade in. Very unusual for a military brat. My dad was a Russian linguist, but after the USAF sent him to finish his engineering degree we returned and he was the Base Civil Engineer for Spangdahlem. My first real paying job was the summer of 66 when we built the golf course my dad designed on Spangdahlem AFB. Thanks for the pictures of Trier Housing. They brought back fond memories. Outside the housing area there used to be cherry orchards, and deeper in the forest there where trenches and bunkers poorly filled in and left over from WWII. We use to find schrapnel, bullets, and all kinds of stuff. Once we found a live mortar. We turned it in to EOD. Memories of: 4 marks to the dollar, Gummy Bears, ceramic pop-top beer bottles, and great bread, good hearty food, The general population still used wood and coal to operate their stove/oven, and had to hand pump water. The area seemed to be perpetually covered in clouds, often rain and occasional snow. Very few sunny days.

Thanks for posting the picture with the school in the background! I started 1st grade there and walked to school from the opposite end of the apt building in the foreground. My visual memories of there are vague so it was amazing to click on that picture. It was affectionately known as The Pink School the older kids called it the Punk school.

I loved seeing the pictures of Pirmasens! I lived there 1968-1970 in a building directly across the street from the school. The school building has changed a lot since I was there. Lots of adding on. Last time I visited I took a piece of the building we lived in back with me. My Dad was stationed at Dahn, so the pictures of Dahn were fun (and sad) to look at. Thanks much! Regards, Holly.

Hi, We were stationed at Pirmasens from 87 to 90, and were there when "The Wall" came down, very exciting. I was the Chief of Operations (DO) in a 15 man combined Army/Air Force unit on Husterhoeh. We lived off base in leased housing near the Coke a Cola plant near the Palace de Madame bordello. It was great to see some of our old stomping grounds again. I retired in 94 at Langley, VA and now live in Vegas. Again, great pictures

Hi, Just googled Muenchweiler and saw your pictures. In 1968-1972 we lived ion base and my day was stationed in Primansens. The three story building that you believe to be barracks at that point in time was base housing. There were four or five three story buildings that were base housing for married with kids. we lived on the 3rd floor in the middle of one of these buildings and had a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room living then a hallway with eight bedrooms (4 on each side. and alot of stairs to climb.) Thanks for the memories. Mike

Thanks for the photos of the Kindsbach facility. I spent 6 years there (65-68 and 70-73). The only photos I recognize are the main hall and the mess hall. The smaller room off to the left as you walk towards the kitchen was the "officer's mess". Even though I didn't recognize much, it brought back memories.

hey, just wondering how you were able to contact the land owner of the Kindsbach airbase, seems pretty cool that something like that was so close and no one really knows about it. Thanks Chris
