Hello trailtrekker2000! My name is John Frincke. Milton M. Frincke's youngest son. This morning I Googled my father's name after finishing a day hike with four other family members on Saturday, August 2nd, to Brainerd Lake. Of course at the top of the Google results was your post about the plaque that had been placed at the lake in my father's memory. The goal of our hike was to locate the plaque that had been placed there a few years earlier by his close friend Art Krause (who has since passed away). He and my father had hiked all through the Sierra for years, hiking the John Muir trail among others. They even climbed the Middle Palisade in September 1946, which is why Brainerd Lake was chosen by Art to place the plaque. We were of course disappointed to not find the plaque, but we did find the location where Art had placed it. Evidence of the cement that he used was still on the granite rock. We knew where to look since Art had chronicled the placement with photographs and written description. We hope you see this message. We would very much like to get the plaque if you still have it. Thanks for your feedback. I'm prejudiced in that I think Oregon is the best place in the world to hike. But oh, those North Cascades (WA)! I may have to revise my opinion. I'd certainly encourage you to plan a trip up there, it's just gorgeous.
