Hi again, Teresa! I just remembered that next weekend (Sept 5, 6 and 7) is the Japanese Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden. They're be special activities going on all weekend and huge crowds will be in attendance. It would be something exciting to see, but in order to get a parking space you need to get there early in the day! We have never driven over to the gardens for the Japanese Festival because we don't like large mobs of people, but it is quite an event from the photos that I've seen. Labor Day weekend is a pretty busy weekend in this area at all places.

Hi Teresa! There is a Drury Inn not too far from the botanical gardens, but I personally think you'd be better off to stay in downtown St. Louis for most of the attractions like the Gateway Arch, Union Station and other sights in downtown. The hotels in St. Louis are all rather expensive, but there really isn't much at all near the gardens (I think there is an old Holiday Inn off I-44 and Hampton also, but I wouldn't stay there). The gardens are located in an area of St. Louis that I wouldn't call the safest area, but once inside the garden, everything is safe and they have security on the parking lot. I don't live in St. Louis (I live in St. Charles), so I have never stayed at any of the hotels in downtown St. Louis or St. Louis County. We have to drive 45 minutes to get to the gardens and the zoo and go at times when we can try to avoid rush-hour traffic. I can tell you that right now is not the perfect time for seeing the gardens since it's the end of summer and fall colors haven't taken over yet, but it is still a wonderful garden during all seasons and if this is the only time you can visit it, then I think you will enjoy it. The St. Louis Zoo isn't too far away from the gardens. Hope this helps! ~~Sharon
