Hi Stevo,
Uncle has set up a new homestay in Banda Aceh, located only 100m from his old place. It's a 5 minute becak ride north of the city centre... ask the driver to take you to "Jalan Syiah Kuala, di simpang Lambaro Skep" (Syiah Kuala St, at the Lambaro Skep junction".
When you get to the simpang (junction), you willl see a side road running off Jalan Syiah Kuala. This side road is Uncle's street... his house is the first one on the right... it is new with a blue roof. Just ask the locals for Uncle and they will point you to his house. Rooms at Uncle's are Rp70,000/with fan, Rp100,000/with AC, Rp200,000/large with AC. (NB: the poster of mine which Derek saw has an incorrect price of Rp60,000 for the fan room... but even at Rp70,000 it is still a very cheap room for Banda Aceh).
The full address is: Uncle's homestay, Jalan Mujahidin No. 2B, Lambaro Skep, Banda Aceh
If you are having trouble finding the place, call Uncle on: 0852 6028 4432 (mobile phone) or 0651-26219 (home phone). Both Uncle & his wife Yulia speak some English, and can offer advice on Banda Aceh & surrounds.
Pamela.
hey there i don't know if ya got my last message ....i need to get in touch with uncle abdul in banda aceh do you have a email or something for him....i had his address but lost it....thanks
Hi Moore_summer,
Really sorry about the delay in getting back to you.
I went out twice to get new 60 day visas- once to Singapore from Padang West Sumatra- flew Tigerair.
And second time flew from Medan to Penang.
Please email me at pamelajoyfuge@hotmail.com and I will send a reply with loads of links re the visas.
From what I understand now the visa is called a 211 which means technically you should be able to extend it in Indonesia each month as long as you have a sponsor.
I also have a Word attachment I have just created for another traveller who is currently in Aceh and will be travelling to Sumatra.
In the attachment I detail my trip but also add in numerous links of other people's blogs, links to websites which have loads of information.
It is a good basis for studying and then getting some idea of where to go and then start asking more questions.
if you are into a bit of adventure you must visit Ketambe in south Aceh.
I travelled in Sumattra and Aceh for almost 4 months, alone with no language skill- just knowledge of lots of words and had the most unbelievable time. LIVED MY DREAM EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Please email me. Hope you are going to see Java as well particularly East Java, and maybe some of West Java. I used to have a small weekend mobile English school in Cianjur West Java for 4.5 yrs- piad someone to teach for me- so know lots about that area- have loads of contacts.
Cheers,
Pamela.
HI Pamela,
I would just like to know how you got around the visa situation.
i know we can apply for a 60 day visa before we leave but once we are over there, whats the best way around extending visas????

HI Pamela,
My boy friend and i are planning a trip to Indo in July for 6 months, have just started doing some re search when i came across your photos they are amazing, with so much valuable info to share. Really starting to look forward to trip after just looking at your photos.
We dont really have much of a plan as yet but fly in to bali and head straight up into sumatra over to Borneo, Malysia, Sinagapore and Thailand depending on time and money.
Would love to keep in touch for some great tips. Thanks Summer
Hi Mact56,
I loved the area and travelled from Medan to Kutacane to Ketembe then through to Takengon and Lake Tawar and finally onto Banda Aceh.
Stayed with Uncle and Yuila- great people. Yuo can now trek outside Banda with ex Gam- somethng I would love to do-maybe this April 2008.
Go to Lonely Palnet Thorn Tree Indonesia forum and search for posts by aceh_sum He is a Dutch guy who lives there and knows all about the treks.
Pamela.
Pamela,
I've checked out your Indo shots and you obviously do plenty of travel over there. I'm thinking of heading to Bandah Aceh in 2008 and would like to hear your impressions of the area.
Hi Pamela, just looked at your Mt. Bromo album, very nice photos, can't wait to see the place, gonna be there in 3 days! Thanks for your advise on the trip to Indonesia in Thorn Tree. I am TTamara. All the best. Tamara
