About Me more
Over the years I've accumulated many photographs, most of which were just stored away. I began uploading some of them to Webshots, and found this an easy way to sort, store and share them with friends all over the world.

Hi Angus; just finished Mildred Cable's book and was entranced by it. Her writing is illuminating, erudite and so engaging. It has got me fired to go off to the Silk Road and wander the Gobi Desert again, so we are reading lots of other associated material. Thank you so much again for such a wonderful tip regarding the book. It has been one of the rare seminal moments when decisions about some future journeys fall fully into focus. All the best, Diana

Hi Angus. I am really absorbed and engrossed with "The Gobi Desert" by Mildred Cable. Thank you so much for the tip about it. We travelled independently and slowly through there in 2000, so identifying the places and matching them with our notes and the modern faces they present is wonderful. I just wish I had had a digital camera...we were on the Silk road journey for 4 months, so had to be sparing of film, in terms of luggage and places to capture.Once again, thanks so much, and have a lovely weekend, Diana.

Hello Angus. Thanks again for the comments. I really would like to try to find the book you mention. I have quite a collection of Gobi Desert and Silk road books, some quite old, but not that one. I'm going to shortly put up a Gobi Desert to Urumchi album which links into this one and which connects with the Kashgar and Karaoram Highway albums I already have.. It will be the final bit in my jigsaw, showing the original Han 4th century rammed earth Great Wall near Jiayuguan in the middle of the Gobi Desert.I valkue your comments and friendship. Best wishes, Diana

Hello Angus. Your comments on my remote Sichuan/Gansu and Tibetan areas of China were much appreciated. It was part of a 3 month wandering by public transport through those regions and then across the Gobi and Taklamankan Deserts, across the Silk Road and into far north Pakistan. pre digital, unfortunately, so limited choice os shots for album. Really astonishing and interesting. Have a lovely weekend, Diana

Thank you very much for your nice comments on my winning picture CC frost. Very kind of you. At the moment I took this picture, the world was very small because of the fog and the atmosphere was so peaceful. I am very pleased that this picture has won. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year! Annie, (The Netherlands)

Hello Angus. I appreciated your comments on my Zanskar and Ladakh mountains. The actual landscapes are just unimaginably vast and spectacular....and remote. You ask about the altitude/trek...surprisin gly there is "the world's highest motorable road" at 18,600 feet over the Khardung La(Pass). This is because of its strategic importance, and proximity to the Pakistan border and access to the Siachen Glacier. Air is pretty thin, but OK as long as you are not sprintng! All the best, Diana.
