  • Hi, again Arthur. So good to hear from you. First of all, I just wanna thank you for taking the time to check on my albums. In addition to making such nice comments, I'd also like you to give me a few tips to improve my shooting skills. I need to hone them a lot, so you could be a great help. Your tips and recommendations will always be welcome news for me. Well, yes, my son kicked up his heels with the Yankees win in the Fall Classic. He'd never seen them win before because he was barely a toddler when the Bombers won three in a row in 98, 99 and 2000. So, this thime around he did get kicks out of it! I was -of course- on the NL side, but I knew the Phillies were not gonna make it. His Little League team is just training now. They went to the finals but lost four games straight and couldn't make it to the grand finale. Pretty embarrassing because they were the defending champs and wound up dethroned. That's baseball, that's what. He's now ready to jump to the pre-junior category (12 to 14 years of age), he's still catching, pitiching relief and doing a few starts every once in a while, but it's his bat what he's really good at. My little guy is the cleanup batter and the head coach even keeps him on that spot in the lineup when he's pitching. Wow! I'm really proud of that. But that also puts him under a lot of strain because his team mates, the coach and even the other parents always expect him to be the big bat, the guy who can hot in the clutch, the one who can hit in the tie-breaking or go-ahead run. I've taught him how to deal with the frustration of not making it sometimes, but that's quite a learning process and he's still a long way to go.

  • Hi, Arthur. As to your questions on Soroa, yes, the place is pretty close to Havana, just 60 miles from the capital, in Pinar del Rio, Cuba's westernmost province. The place is a natural paradise full of exotic trees, plants, flowers, birds and other species. But my visit was just a couple of months after two major category 4 hurricanes played havoc with the location. That explains why the top of the mountains have nearly no trees and palms at all. They're growing now because we got off scot-free this year, fortunately. Your comments are always welcome news to me, music to my ears. In addition to being my good friend and a diehard Yankee fan, you're a heck of a good photographer and one of the top-ranking WS members. Do you think I haven't noticed you're just about to crack the 10 million-view plateau? Way to go, pal! It feels so good to count on you! Warmest regards -it's still chilly and rainy down here- from your friend in Havana. Hey, check out our friend Don's latest shot of San Francisco (haightdon). It's a beauty!

  • Hi, friend. I'm happy for all Yankees fans, including my brother and my brother-in-law. Yes, I watched the six games of the World Series and a good chunk of the post season. I wanted the Angels to be in for a chance to watch young Cuban player Kendry Morales doing his stuff. He hit 34 homers and drove in 108 runs in the regular season, let alone 45 doubles. But the Yankees do know how to play post-season games. They deserved to win after posting the best record i both leagues. And I'm really happy for you. Even my 11-year-old kid is a Yankees fan. He says he wants to be like A-Rod. Let's hope he could at least be as good as Kendry Morales. That'll do the trick, won't it? Warmest regards to you from a chilly and rainy Havana. There a Category 1 hurricane swirling up over Havana. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

  • Well, congrats on your 27th World Series ring, buddy. I'm happy 4 U, indeed! No hard feelings at all. How can I be sad if a good friend of mine (many indeed) is doing the happy dance now? Hope you're fine. Warm regards from your good friend in Havana.

  • Hello, my good old friend. How have you been? I believe you were just traveling around and taking those wondeful pictures of yours. Or maybe you were just a tad busy watching the Yankees rolling all the way into the World Series. Thanks so much, buddy, for your kind remarks on my featured album. I must confess I was a little bit surprised not to see a message from you. You've always encouraged me and making comments on my shots, so it was weird not to see you on the list of friends who congratulated me. But never mind. It's never too late. Comments and congratulatory messages come and go, but friends stay forever. I'm moving on now to your homepage to see if you've uploaded new images. Warm regards from your friend in Havana.

  • Hi, John. I learned you received a Lifetime Membership Award and that makes me very happy. You deserve this, pal. As a matter of fact, it's been quite some time since I heard from you last. Give me a sign and don't be shy... the Bronx Bombers are doing great this season and I'm the one who's supposed to be embarrassed. The Mets are struggling again. Congrats on your Lifetime Membership, friend. Warmest greetings from Havana.

  • Thank you again for your Kind Comments. Answer to your question is Mr. Tumnus is 7 or 8. However, he thinks he is 3. He is constantly looking to play (sometimes harrass the two other cats), when he is not resting. He might be the youngest of the three, yet he feels he is the alpha cat.

  • I intentionally took the pictures that way. There's no problem in my taking pictures of people in the streets. As a matter of fact, that's something I wanna do, but that ought to be a different theme for a different collection. The Havana gallery is intended to showcase some of the city's major landmarks, not people. So, I can promise you an upcoming collection with the kind of stuff you want to see. Best regards, my friend.

  • Yes I am a huge fan of Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh. Unlike Jerry, I stay with the Wharf Rats. It is much safer at the table with the Yellow Balloons. When I was younger, I was not so picky. Not drinking and not using drugs has allowed me to explore other venues such as photography. I even got married this January. Seven years ago, I was given a second chance at a first class life. I am extremely Grateful! Thank you for your friendship. - Donald

  • No hard feelings, my dear friend. Many of my good friends are big Yankee fans, just like you. Even my 11-year-old boy is. He plays Little League here in Havana and he wears an A-Rod jersey and a black cap for the games. So, what am I gonna do? I'm surrounded by Yankee fans. I have this friend from Boston, Prof. Margaret Whitham. Can you imagine all the things she told me when she found out I'm a Mets fan? They haven't put the Bill Buckner's flubbed ball in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series in the back of their minds. So my good Yankee fan,I wish you the very best in this season.

  • Hi, perlasart. I honestly hope this warming-up will definitely come to a complete thaw. The Cold War years are long behind us and it's time now to move on and get a new start, as President Obama said. There's no better partner for Cuba than the U.S. and you'll get stunned to see how much we act like Americans do. We have a lot of things in common, including the music, the films and baseball, just to name but a few. I really hope from the bottom of my heart that good friends like you could come down sooner rather than later -hopefully this very year is the U.S. Congress passes pending legislation on the travel ban issue and President Obama signs it into law. And it'll be great for people like me to visit the States and share the good things of life together, like photography. I wish you the best and let's keep our fingers crossed. I'm an upbeat guy and this warming-up -as you put it- is making me get plenty of hot ideas. I hope to see you in Havana pretty soon. I'll be pleased to take you on a grand tour around some of the many breathtaking places this tiny island nation has to offer. Don't forget to bring a few SD cards with you. You're going to need them. "Warm" greetings from Havana!
