Hi Morag, having a few problems making this site work for me so hope this reaches you.
I am interested in your photos of Cooeprs in Rhodesia. One has enabled me to positively identify the chassis of the Jimmy De Villiers car which is now in the UK being restored.
Are you able to give me more details where missing of the following photos - driver, place/event, date?
Coro Park (where is that/)
M Witham
No56
Number 6
J De Villiers
Any idea how I can get jpeg copies of these photos - the site doesn't seem to allow them to be downloaded and used in normal photo software.
Regards Terry
Hi Morag
Do you by chance have any idea what became of Jill Annersley (Amm)? Her name came up recently on a motorcycle racing nostalgia forum and after googling her, I was led to your photographs.
If you can help with any info, that would be very much appreciated.
Regards
Russell Burrows
Morag: I am putting together a book on Paddy Driver (the fifth on motorsport I have written for charity in SA) and would like to include some shots from racing in Zimbabwe, especially from Bulawayo. Might you be able to kindly assist. my email is millsg@eoson.co.za. Greg Mills
Hi Morag. This is sure a blast from the past.I was very good friends with Shaun Robinson And Graham Smith.I was also friend of the late Gary.I knew your family back in the old days .I lived in Byo till 1974.I will enclose some of the photos of the good days .The photo of you was taken by my self at the race meeting at Kumalo, the photos of Shaun ,and the photo of Shaun and Paddy Driver were taken at the same meeting. The photo of Buddy Harris was taken at Marlborough as with the start photos. Thanks for the interesting photos. Brings back many memories.
Regards Len Carcary.
Hi Morage. BulawayoBoy here. Yes I knew your brother Alec and a few of the other Salisbury riders from those days. I only started later in the sport but it was mostly confined to the dirt. My uncle had a bike shop in Bulawayo (Van Rooyens) when I was a kid and so knew all of the Byo riders.
Nice pics - nostalgia corner - All the best, Iain Harper
Hi Morag. You still out there? By a strange coincidence, I'm going to be interviewing Mike Hutchons, who appears in one of your pictures, this afternoon. I came across him when doing some research on aviation between the wars here in Durban, South Africa. My Durban history website is at www.fad.co.za. Cheers. Allan. 28 August 2007.
Morag, thanks for posting these wonderful old photos of the early days of Motor Racing in Rhodesia, the generations pictured are fading away but our memories of the oldies live on with us, when we fade away it will only be the photos that live on. Stew.
