    • Hi: You asked a question about a salamander photo I had. I emailed my son who knows those kind of things. I have encluded his answer. I hope this helps you. I haven't seen any salamanders here for several years. This was the only one this year. The year I had my son Robert here, we caught 11 in one block! Jerry Reply: That looks like a tiger salamander; it's the same kind that we caught and brought back to California from ND. They're native throughout most of the US and into Mexico & Canada and have different colors and patterns depending on their location. They can get fairly large: up to 12 inches. This particular one is a nicely colored Blotched Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum melanostictum). You can see more about them here: http://www.npwrc.usgs.gov/resource/herps/amphibid/species/atigrin.htm ~Robert -----Original Message----- From: Jerry Walter [mailto:jwwalter@nccray.c om] Sent: Wednesday, January 10, 2007 11:37 AM To: Walter, Robert Subject: Fw: You have a new Webshots Guestbook entry!
