hi molly,
thank you for such high praise! those y-seams are machine pieced- they all are except for the smaller ones within the center medallion- i appliqued them to the background.
i've found that with accurate marking (i use a ruler and a really sharp pencil to mark the quarter inch seams along the inside edges where the pieces have to join) and if i get the machine needle exactly in the right spot, the block just sews itself! it's really not as hard as you might think!
but thanks again!
This quilt is an original design by me. The feathered star was a UFO in my cabinet for years and I just started putting borders around it and it grew. I did it by hand except for a few long construction seams and that feathered star was done by Marsha McCloskey's method. Thanks for your nice thoughts. Kathy Timmons
the quilt is based on a japanese quilt book- it's all in japanese, but there's a 300 on the cover. there are pictures of 300 6.5 inch blocks. i made mine 4.5 inches and only sewed 100 of them. thanks for your nice comment. ellen

It was a BOM at Country Stitches in Burlson, TX. It was using Marti Mitchell's templates. Joy Joslin
