Actually most of the kids took double takes and a few jumped back. Many smiled and stared. About three got so scared that I left the store owner with his candy so the kids could get the candy. Many of the adults also took double takes. I would have the camera in front of my face and lower after the shot most of the time. It was a good fun night despite the continuous light rain. I will be going back next year. Hopefully more prepared with the camera. We had to sit under a little over hang in front of the door. I would have like to be out on the sidewalk for a better angle and light. Sometimes the umbrellas blocked what little light I had. I have a link from my event calendar to the 537 pictures that I did get.

Good to hear from you Marie, and it is nice that Penelope is back in circulation. My chemo schedule has been stretched out to allow better recovery between infusions. Things are going well. Ask your 8th grade students how fast a car would have to go the second mile to average 60 mph over two miles if it was driven 30 mph the first mile. The answer isn't 90 mph. They need challenges like this to appreciate math. - - Brian

Hi Marie, so good to hear from you. Yes, I have recovered enough from surgery to feel like taking a photo or two. Glad you noticed the new shots. In less than two weeks I will start chemotherapy, and then radiation treatments will follow. So, I am going to enjoy the few days before that all starts. Thanks so much for the message. Hope things are going well for you in this new school year. - - Brian

Hi! Just a quick note to thank you for taking time to comment on my photo WS chose to use for POTD on 9/11. It was certainly an honor to have a photo chosen to represent so many other's sentiments. Sincerely, Angie

Hi Marie I left comment on http://blog.webshots.com/?p=1201#comments about deleting my photo "The TRUE" from side of Webshots people. I absolutely agree about you work you are good and I think same about my work - I am good but not great photographer. On the other side you are right this is better place to exchange some opinions. I think you are right about webshots web site. Its not place for some artistic works. If you want you can use my email nedim.bosnic@gmail.com Its even better way of communication as I am not checking messages often. Nedim

Hi Marie, Just a short note to let you know that you are not alone in flagging the nude photos found on WS. I also do the same. Some are removed and others have yet to be removed after several months. It seems that there is a double standard here on WS that I don’t comprehend. I have never received more than an automated reply from the staff. Keep up the good work you troublemaker you, LOL j/k - Kirk

Got your message, Marie - thanks! I understand your frustration. WS did take action on an issue that arose recently, where a member was apparently doing a lot of unethical things and supporting material was provided to back up this assertion. You can check my message forum, back a page or two, to find where I first got notified about this. I forwarded the messages themselves to the WS copyright email address, to let WS determine their legitimacy since I was not the copyright owner, and they reacted very quickly to pull the shots. I believe that host sites can be held liable for allowing material that is in violation of copyright. There have been some important lawsuits filed against large sites over intellectual property rights, and I should think that WS is becoming more aware of these. I, too, get tired of the "collectors" and even more tired of all the glowing comments that people are posting in these plagiarized albums. There can never be a truly respectful community if some members feel it's OK to violate others' rights to their work. But one individual can only do so much before we get a reputation as troublemakers. It's very unfortunate. I'm hoping that we will soon be able to use watermarked signatures on our CC entries, at least. And if there's also a change in policy, forcing people to make their camera EXIF data public, then this would make it tough for others to steal such images and claim ownership of them. I don't think EXIF files are transferred during download. And they are proof of the actual camera used and date taken, so they establish a timeframe. Sometimes, when I see a suspicious image where the resolution is a bit iffy and there is no EXIF data, then I figure it's been downloaded from somewhere else. So we do have tools available to fight intellectual property theft; WS just needs to acknowledge and encourage their use. ~ Brenda

Marie, thanks for the great comment on my hummingbird POTD! I really appreciate your encouraging words. It's an honour to have been given such recognition, and to share this tiny creature's beauty with our Webshots community and my WS friends. ~ Brenda

Thank you for visiting my album “Mugo State Park” and leaving a nice comment. And it was just luck I caught the hawk with a snake. I had just started walking in the canyon when I happen to look directly up. Because it was foggy at that spot I did not have my camera ready, I got lucky when the bird looped around to fly out. Dan.

Hi Marie:Thanks for your comments on my CC photo. It must be my computer but when I go to the display page only 2 of my 3 photos are posted.....and that does not make sense. There seems to be something very strange in Webshots land.Jo.

Hi Marie, I understand how it's supposed to work. My objection is the algorithm is obviously skewed (that's the polite version). One of the albums concerned has had less than 1000 views in 4yrs. I got well over 2000 just last week! Views are correspondingly higher too. Also, the dates of feature vs members choice don't add up (It does with mine though). This has always been a problem here and quite frankly I am highly suspicious of the whole thing. There are clearly some nonsense figures reported (just check out digital art most popular). I am not talking about what you do or do not like, that is obviously subjective for all of us. Rather look at some numbers objectively - I guess there are similar anomalies in other categories, but I don't watch them. Regards John

Hi Marie, yes I see your blog post and I was aware of the message problem a couple of weeks ago, just wondered if everyone/most see the same. I blocked my pics on here Xmas 2007 - just fed up with issues that were not being addressed. I hoped that AG would instill new impetus to the site, but quite frankly, I am since puzzled by their acquisition. They seem to have done nothing. The very least I expected (apart from bug fixing) was to allow members to purchase content from other members (with consent of course), basically as suggested by Jim on the blog. But absolutely nadah. I reinstated my pics on here last month - don't know why - things are absolutely no different. The least I expect is a sort of community blog where members can chat about anything. The effort tried about 3yrs ago was very un-user friendly to say the least, and I guess they abandoned it along with video channel while I was away. Somethings done on here astound me. I had a POTD on the digital art category about 10 days ago. It was only there for about 1/2 a day (which is ok), then replaced by 12 (twelve) pics from another member. Those pics are still there with a little rotation based on what I have no idea. I mean, who decides it will be that way (his brother? lol). It just ain't fair. I don't care what the rules of the game are, as long as they are the same for everybody! If you don't participate in the challenges or walks, what's left on here? I just can't get my head round 'em. Sorry if I sound negative, but I have seen so much better on other sites e.g. blogs that handle dozens of topics utilised by 100s of users everyday, I am bewildered by the ineptitude on here. I just hope the niggling problems are fixed (but quite frankly they have known about them long enough, so I doubt it) along with an improvement in the site (but think it will take another owner to fix that). Ah well, regards, John

Hi Marie, Thanks for your message, on my message board. I am afraid that history, is about to repeat itself. That is why, I bought up, that old blog. That data base failure, was a nightmare. I am concerned that Webshots is committing business suicide. They need to wake up, before they are standing in the unemployment lines. Keep me posted about your problems. Good luck and have a great week. All The Best, Teresa

Hi Marie, I just posted this comment, in the blog at http://blog.webshots.com/?p=1192 ."Comment by Teresa (Teres187) August 9, 2009 @ 12:38 pm The “New Desktop Client And Bug Fixes” Blog is at http://blog.webshots.com/?p=880 .People had pictures and albums to disappear, stats and message board messages were gone, etc. This is Jessica’s post from that subject. “Comment by Jessica, Editorial Department April 21, 2008 @ 2:24 pm Hi everyone, I just heard back from the tech team as to what happened. On Friday, we had a database failure and it took longer than we hoped for to fix the problem. The good news is that your photos and videos and message were not lost!” I hope, that history is NOT being repeated. I will repeat my call, for tech support, 24/7. This is my post, from that same blog. “Comment by Teresa (Teres187) April 19, 2008 @ 1:07 am I just checked my home page. My comments are gone, too. My albums and pictures are still up and the comments on the pictures and albums, are still up, but on the album cover, where it says “Comments,” there are no numbers. What happened? Most places, including where I work, the IT division is 24/7. People are on duty, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. WS needs to have some IT people, working on the weekends and holidays. Where I work, we split the weekends. Some people are off, on Fridays and Saturdays, and some people are off, on Sundays and Mondays. Teresa”
