hi. my mom grew up in Marvel. Her father was a miner with Roden Coal & her mother actually ran the company store. Of course, they've both passed now. I'd really love any information you could pass on to me regarding Marvel, Alabama or the Roden Coal Co.. I would also love, love, love to be able to pass some of your photos on to my mom as well, if that's feasible. Please contact me at your convenience. And thank you.

Hello mgoggira, I have started a facebook site devoted to the history and folklore of Montevallo, Alabama. Would you consider posting some of your historic photos to this site?

Good morning! I teach at the U of Montevallo, and love the shots of Aldrich you've posted. We're working on a short documentary about the area, and would love to download and use the photos in our story. Would you be willing to discuss that or give us the ok? Thanks! -Jay Cofield, Ph.D. The University of Montevallo

I am 58 years old and have been interested in the Bham district area iron and coal mines for 45 years. You have some great historic old photos. Are they in a museum library or university where I may go to obtain copies from some of the originals? Jeff

Hello again, Thank you for allowing me to be a "friend" on here. I am new to Webshots and I cannot figure out how to order prints of your pictures. The ones I want are in 2 of your albums. Bygone Days late 1800's picture # 17 & 18 and in Roden Coal Co. 1906 # 8, 24 & 49. I was wondering if you could contact me by email and if you could send me copies of these I will be more than willing to cover the shipping and printing of these. Please let me know. Thanks, Dana (danardh@comcast.net)

I live in a house found in one of your old photographs of Montevallo. I'd like to know if you have any other photographs of this area (currently Selma Road) of Montevallo. Laurie Middaugh (205) 665-1569

Hello Marshall, I am very happy & excited to hear from you & look forward to getting to know you a little. If you have time I would love it if you would tell me about youself-other than that you are a professional photographer. Are you employed otherwise or is photography all you do? Chuck & I again wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you for writing and God's blessing be with you. Janie

Hello, Wanted to thank you for your uplifting message-you're right, it is hard, but better I care for him here than he be in a nursing home with less care. I'm not say ing they don't care just that they have so very much to do. His medications are picky too. Eight years is a very long time, I can only imagine haw hard it must have been sometimes, but God bless you for caring for her! I would love to 'be friends', but I see you have one and wondered if you don't either want or really have time for this activity on WS. I will look into more of your albums. Please take care I wish your a wonderful time of celebrating Christ's Birthday and a Very Hopeful New Year. God bless you. Janie

My wife and I stumbled upon the Italian Catholic cemetery. We were taken by some of the family names and stories told by the gravestones. Have you heard of the Brunetti family in Marvel?

I found that a William Benjamin F. Goggins, born April 5, 1893, registered for the WWI draft. Also a William Benjamin F. Goggins was born about 1847 in Alabama and is shown in the 1880 Shelby County census. He was married to Elizabeth and they had a son mentioned in the census named William, born about 1869, who also may have been a William Benjamin F. Goggins. The family seems to be around Birmingham Alabama. I seem to be missing a generation, and would like to fill in all names in the gap. I can provide information tracing them previously in the Bibb County AL census, the Georgia, and South Carolina, census if someone would like to share. I have Goggins photos, but I don't know how to place them on this site. Harry Goggins hgoggins@bellsouth.net
