About Me more
While there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.~Dorothea Lange

... stabbed in the heart. Right in the heart. Yes, it did take me 3 months to notice. OOOP!!! I may be late, but I'm loyal. And as to only having worn out one husband, well, that's a testament to number 2's ability to put up with my shenanigans as much as it is to my ability to behave like a big girl. Most of the time. Ran into a COW????? OMG. WHERE are the pictures of THAT??????? And no ... I'M not laughing ... not meeeeee ... <insert innocent eye-blink here>

Also, watched your YouTube gift ... wowzer ... 1969. I married my first husband in 1969. Yes, I was once a young girl of 19. Ahh ... where IS that delete button?????? OOO ... one more thing about Flickr, photos can be nicked there as easily as here. Bummer. Spent some quality time today with their "Random" pics ... have you ever done that??? Holy Momma ... the compositions, the creativity, the professional quality!!!! I was BLOOOOWN away!! Truly "AWEsome" <~~ hehe

I have a free flickr persona, it's the same as here, GloriDays. In my humble opinion, I think pic quality there is better than WS. Here, things appear washed out sometimes. Can work on a shot in my computer, upload, and have it be much different on WS. Have you ever noticed that? Drives me crazy. Checked out the site you recommended and one thought leaped out at me. Not that I know anything about it, but when I was shopping for my 60mm, the guys at one shop kept nudging me toward the Sigma 105. They were telling me you can get just as close a shot, you just don't have to be IN the bug's face to do it. I had them send it over for me, but with the Nikon D40x, you need an af-s lens. So the Sigmas will fit, the auto focus just won't work. Since you shoot with a D50, that might not be an issue for you?? Anyhow, they were going on and on about the Sigmas, and I think they are less expensive than the Nikons. Just thought you might want to think about those, too. Thanks for that link ... looks like tons of great info!!!

Thanks, Snapper ... all your comments on the new bugs made my evening!!! I hope they helped you make your decision?? You should also check out Lynnie440's recent raindrops. I bought the 60mm on her recommendation, but I think she's using the 105 now. Thanks again, hon, and have a fun-filled week!!! Hugs ... Lois

Thank you for your encouraging comment. No, I didn't enter it in the dof. Didn't think of that one. I just put it in the photo walk. Oh, well, next time.

... just saw your note. <laughing> yeah, knowing me. I had a repair guy in the house last week ... as I was writing out his check he happened to see all the cameras and lenses and photog books and magazines and tripods (yes, I have two of the hated things) strewn about the desk (and floor). He helplessly mentioned something about one of the books, and I launched right into a diatribe about photography until his ears started bleeding. <sigh> The scary thing is, I remember my dad being like this about airplanes. Dear Heaven. Anyhow, why am I in here ... OH yeah .. about to open that new bug album ... many of the shots in which were taken with the 60 mm and many with the 70-300mm (I look for birdies when I'm out with the dogs). See the difference (from an amateur like myself, of course) and see which you think takes the better pics for what you want to accomplish. Need to look it over one more time before I send it out into the universe. ONE more example for you ... this is of Peach, taken at the mountain ... with the 60mm. The shot following it in the album is the view from the edge of our property, taken with the 60mm ... several mountain ranges, and if you go full size you'll even see the windmills on the far range. Point being, this lens does more than flowers and bugs. http://entertainment.webshots.com/photo/2685774930012195579QMNmab?vhost=entertainment

Last, here's one done with the 60mm (from the new album) standing a bit farther back ... I could easily crop in very tight on this one, and may yet decide to do so ... I hope this answers your questions?? http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2152542460012195579SWaFZS?vhost=outdoors

Now, here's a fairly typical example of what the 60mm does when it's in my hands. Parts are wildly in focus, the rest is blur. BUT ... I will say, the blur / bokeh can be magnificent!! I've got a new critter album nearly ready to open, many of the shots in there are done with the 60mm ... and you'll really see what I mean. But it's all in how you handle it. I got mine based on some shots from Lynnie440. I think she's now primarily using the 105 for her close up work ... you've seen her raindrop shots?? Ok, here's my in and out of focus http://entertainment.webshots.com/photo/2542076740012195579maWdOb?vhost=entertainment

Morning dear boy!! Good to see you. About that 60mm lens!! I love it ... but am still getting used to it, I think. Within a few weeks of buying it, I picked up the 70-300 and have actually been using it much more. The macro takes a bit of getting used to. Let me send some examples your way and you'll "get" what I'm talking about. The shot I'm going to include here was used with it, but cropped significantly. Since I was farther away from the subject, more of the image was in focus ... then cropping got the tight view I wanted: http://entertainment.webshots.com/photo/2073081670012195579BdzhFL?vhost=entertainment

Hello sweetie ... yes, I DO love that album so much!! And I just wanted the rest of the world to have a chance to experience the mystery and magic that YOU captured sooo beautifully!! So your email went crackers, eh? <laughing> Well, I hope it has recovered?? Thanks for your note. Ya make me blush!! Also, thanks for popping by The Bird Walk. And no, I didn't know a couple of the birds in that album!! In fact, debate raged among some of my birdie friends for days over a couple of them, one is still in question!! BIG fun!!! Thanks again for your notes ... it's always party time when you come by for a visit!!! Hugs ... Lois

Snap..thanks for your message. I have to agree with your conclusion about the CC however, I do learn a lot from seeing other entries and just KNOW I'll never win anything anyway, so do it just for fun. Yes, some of your verticals are fantastic examples of DOF (I noticed right away), but I picked a horizontal one of yours that I liked as they don't accept the verticals..darn it. A Pro photographer friend of mine suggested I try Flickr (think that's the right spelling) as he said it's a really good photography site. I may give it a try. I'm still experimenting with my Sony DSC-H1 (12X zoom) which I have had since February aka "Dudley"..LOL It takes me a while to get used to all the different settings and of course not being a "Pro" I'm having to learn by trial and error. The only good thing is that I turn a lot of the errors into Kaleidoscopes (love my PSP-7 program). I love your albums and will try to visit your "lonely" ones ASAP. Hot as Hello here and humidity high, and Dudley has to compose a walk for this weekend..sigh..so I have to get off my duff and do some shooting. Take care and keep in touch..DG
