  • 1. It depends on how you are planning your trip. If you are planning your trip on a rented vehicle then definitely Jankichatti is the place to stay. If you are entirely dependant on public transport then stay at Ranachatti/Syanachatti. Never ever stay at Hanumanchatti, in fact there is no, I say NO reasonable place to stay @ Hanumanchatti except the heavily priced GMVN. All the taxis for Jankichatti starts from Ranachatti/Syanachatti, so you will get a proper seat, by the time it reaches Hanumanchatti, there may not be any seat for you. The other side while leaving Yamunotri, the bus starts from Hanumanchatti and passes through Rana/Syanachatti. June is a peak time and I will advice you to book your seat in advance. I did the journey during Sept and half of the bus was empty that time. If you rent your vehicle then just go to Jankichatti and you will have time to visit Kharsali too. One double bedroom can cost you anything from rs60 to rs400 simply depending upon demand and time. June is the peak time and be prepared to spend more. Don't expect much from the hotels, neither be surprised.... in just one/two day you will adjust to that. 2. KM in the hills has no meaning, If you are planning to travel to yamunotri first and planning to use public transport then start your journey at Dehradoon, I say Dehradoon. If you plan to rent a vehicle then start at Haridwar. No way Rishikesh, contrary to popular belief. Minimum you need 8-9 days to just touch the places and go. Having said that, these places are simply great and you will not have many chances to revisit these places. so better go slow and enjoy for lifetime. Keep in mind that there will be no transport during the night. Keep couple of additional days for landslides, and enjoy those days @ Haridwar/Rishikesh if nothing happens. Pony@Yamunotri - 100-400, two way (Sept - 150) Pony@Gaurikund - 150-600, one way (Sept - 150) Just remember one word BARGAIN!! both for hotel and these kind of services. 50% bargain is very common for hotel and any services.
