Thanks Kathy for leaving such a nice comment on my POTD today. I was surprised and very pleased when I saw it. I was very happy to remove it from the current Creative Challenge. We're trying to brace ourselves for a snowy weekend. I still say that winters out here are a "piece of cake" compared to those in the midwest. Take care and Merry Christmas - Dan.

Dear Kathy of Minnesota, You wrote of "Hokusai's Head" regarding "that irregular border of white around the blue does look kind of Great Wavy." That's precisely what made me give it that title. You're quite the expert on art history! Thanks for the wonderful comment! Paul

Thank you, Kathy - Now that I'm home in Texas from all that beauty, looking at the pictures seems surreal, like we were never there. Texas is a vast difference from Washingon State and Vancouver Island. Appreciate your comments! Kathy in Texas

Good Morning Kathy. Just wanted to send you a quick note to say THANK YOU for your comment on my recent POTD. Your comments are always appreciated. I enjoyed looking at your fall photos. They bring back some great memories of the midwest. My folks and brother in northern Iowa are still busy harvesting. They have another couple of weeks left before they will be done. By the way, I hope you enjoyed your early snow this year. I think I read that it was a new record for the earliest snowfall in the twin cities. By the way, I spend a lot of my time on RedBubble.com now. A bunch of people from webshots are also on that site. I've actually sold a couple of items there. You might want to check it out. Look for me as Dan Myers and let me know what you think. Take care - Dan.

Hi Kathy, I love your pictures of the Filoli Ballroom. I am doing a cake competition and would love to use some of your pictures on the table next to my cake. I live in TX and dont have a chance of visiting Filoli in person, (sob) but I love this ballroom and the meaning of the name of the house. Thanks

Kathy, http://entertainment.webshots.com/photo/1339812508068011407BrXJJN This image has been the POTD in Digital Art for a couple weeks now. Is the Digital Art category no longer of any concern to the WS editors? I wouldn't cast any aspersions on the artist who did this; they have no control over it. But the editors. Oh they must suffer heaps of verbal abuse from the rest of us who are seriously trying to compete in this arena. We deserve fair time. Sincerely, Paul Ewing Chairman of the Board, Webshots Impressarios Mad at the Publishers, Raging at American Greetings (WIMPRAG)

Hi Kathy and thank you for visiting my gardens and your very kind comments. You mentioned that your garden looks tired and overgrown late in the season. What I do (some people don't agree with me)in my garden is, after a perennial blooms I cut it back to a couple inches. I plant things very close. Lets say in a three foot area I plant 3 perennials, Spring, Summer and Autumn. Then I repeat this method throughout the whole garden. Quote from a fellow gardener, "My garden is like a fine hotel. As one is checking in, another is checking out." Cutting back keeps the garden neat and tidy. Each perennial gets its time to be the star. Sometimes even getting another bloom from the cut back perennial. I know alot of people would say the seed heads feed the birds. Well I have a wild area in front of my woods that I let GO CRAZY and the birds and other wildlife can feast on. Thank you again for being a true gardening friend. Smiles, Lark
