Sorry - I just got your message about how I would compare Akumal to DR. I love Punta Cana, DR. I really like their beaches. I have been to Punta Cana four times and would continue to go back. This year we are going back to Mayan Riviera because I miss the food. If you like beaches and going into the ocean, you would like Punta Cana much more than Akumal. There is more to do in Akumal so Punta Cana would be of a more relaxing vacation.
