  • Great albums, Hank. Thank you so much for sharing your pictures with me! I particularly like the images from Delta, as I "discovered" the village a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Your historical documentation of the Military history is particularly fascinating. All the best, Brian Meek (Henry's)

  • Hello Hank, I am writing to you more than a year since you responded to my query about the Rockelm. The reason is that I had included my email address in my query and never received anyhing via that address. I had not bothered to check back on my website with webshots as I had become quite busy in my responsibilities at the University of Idaho. I retired at the end of 2007 and 2008, so far, has been a very busy period. Anyway, today I was looking over things and discovered that I had not confirmed my website with an email address and ran across your response. So, now, the important things.... Would it be possible for me to get a quality copy of the picture of the Rockelm? Second, would it be possible to obtain additional details about the ship and its history? And what about anthing official. I collect various things--mostly old lighting and historical objects. Some things I collected over the years I worked as a consultant on rural electrification programs in various parts of the world. I live in Northern Idaho (1114 Randall Flat Road, Moscow, Idaho 83843) and as I mentioned in my note to you (see below), my email address is alyman@uidaho.edu Best regards, Ashley Lyman Emeritus Professor of Economics and Statistics University of Idaho Moscow, Idaho My email address is alyman@uidaho.edu. The reason I am contacting you is that I may have a ship's bell from the R.N. Rockelm. The brass bell is large, has Rockelm on it and the year 1946. I picked this bell up in 1981 in Bangladesh. Is it possible that it was a bell associated with the ship you have photographed? Thanks, Ashley said alyman2 2007.09.02 at 20:07:33 PDT

  • Hi Hank, My grandfather James Patrick McGuire was mentioned in despatch 3 times in WW2 earning decorations as well as written thanks for his service from the Department of Defense signed on behalf of the King. He was an engine room artificer on the HMCS Niagara during these events. His service earned him a more favored posting on the HMCS Huron at the time of its commissioning - a sister ship of the Haida and other tribal class destroyers. While my family and I are justifiably proud of his service, of course the more glorious record of the Haida is better documented than that of the Huron. I believe your painting of the Haida is outstanding and I want to buy it. You can reach me at 519-859-5237/519-680-5770 or in the evenings at 519-680-3347. As well I can be reached at K.L.Mcguire@hotmail.com; Please write back. I feel your work is important. Best Regards, Kevin McGuire P.S. Thank you for your service to our country.

  • Hi Hank, I came across your webite and I'm sending it to my dad. He and mom lived in River Bourgeois for many years in the 90's. His name is Walter Tokarz. He is a Navy Veteran. His home sat up on a hill. Lovely white siding with front porch. My understanding is that a German couple bought the property, built a new home and their home is a guest house. I remember looking across the river to see a restaurant. You may have know Vince Burke and his brother Louie. They are both deceased now. Vince was my uncle. He was a great lobster fisherman. I visited there and it is absolutely beautiful. Peaceful and the people are so laid back. My father loved it so much. Unfortunately mom took ill and they had to move back to Ontario. River Bourgeois is my idea of a wonderful retirement. I love my birds, my husban loves to fish and we both love lobster. Can't afford to eat it very often, but when it just came off the boat, it was prepared in a huge pot over open fire. I remember mom and dad taking us to the Cabot trail and to Rita McNeil's tea house. I would like to have your correspond to my dad if you could. He'd love to hear from someone from there. His e-mail is curllyt@rogers.com. Mine is buffywine@kwic.com. Super pictures by the way.
