The dark sky and pale sand reverse typical expectations, while a careful palette enhances the dramatic and artistic effect, as he lets the beach structure add a splash of bright color to the blue, grey, beige, and off-white shades of the rest of the photo.

Jay's pictures of spring flowers in Pennsylvania convey the freshness of the season and day. This image of tulips, with its harmonious interplay of cool, gentle complementary colours, captures wonderfully the detail of the textures of petals and leaves.

From a collection of photos from a trip to northern Spain, Genevieve has captured a perfect moment: sunrise at Lago de Enol, in mountains in Asturias (Spain). The picture conveys the peaceful location and the delicacy of the early morning light, along with a sense of anticipation that it will increase as the sun rises.

In an album dedicated to ethnic Tibetans of Ladakh (India), Ladislav Fukal has used the light in this picture with great sensitivity and beauty. The faces remind me, somehow, of a Rembrandt painting, while the objects take on a quiet significance. A magical image!

It is hard to pick out just one picture of the splendid Mezquita in Cordoba (Spain); this one portrays the light, rhythms, and superb craftsmanship of the mosque-church-historic monument. In his Cordoba albums, Fahad effectively conveys the rich cultural and artistic mixture reflecting the contributions of the pre-Christian, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish inhabitants of Andalucia / Andalusia / al-Andalus.
