Thank you for these beautiful pictures. When I was a child, over 60 years ago,I remember my grandfather telling me stories about his mother who was a ball gown designer or seamstress for Empress Eugenie. I remember my grandfather telling me a story his mother told about getting blood on the bodice of a gown for her and embroidering the Lords Prayer on a piece of white silk or satin and tacked it to the bodice to cover the spot of blood. This dress in in the costume museum in Paris. Do you by any chance have a picture of this gown. We have heirlooms that were given to her by the Empress when she left Paris for New York City. Thank you for the correction regarding the Winterhalter portrait of Marie of Baden, Duchess of Hamilton. Somehow the disparity in the dates got past me. My title for that portrait has been corrected.

Wow, what can I say? I've admired this collection of paintings for ages! They combine two of my favourite aspects of history - women and fashion. Moreover, I was pleased to see some new ones since I last looked. Thanks for posting 'em all - I doubt I would ever have seen many of these otherwise!
