I'm not usually partial to classical architecture, but this is an absolutely beautiful photograph of the inside of the dome at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.

Still towering over it's surroundings in the 21st century, can we even imagine how imposing the cathedral at Chartres would've seemed 800 years ago.
Fountains Abbey... so much effort, so long ago. The ancient, ruined abbeys and monasteries of England fascinate me.

Someday, I'll cross the Atlantic and visit Chartres. Until then, beautiful pictures like this will just have to do.

There are many cathedrals in this world I'd like to visit, but none so much as the Cathedral of St. Etienne in Bourges.
I love the simple genius of a rib-vaulted ceiling, like in this cellarium at Fountains Abbey.
