We usually get a dusting of snow and when the sun comes up, it is gone. They had a blizzard here a few years back. They had to call out the National Guard to get people out of homes. All power was gone and no heat. Last year, I don't think we had 1/16' of snow..

Dear WS Friends: Thank You for the Prayers and Good Wishes for my mother. She was only in the hospital for 1-1/2 days ... and has resumed her normal nursing home activities. She was very pleased (and amazed) how many of you, world-wide, were concerned about her health and wants to "Thank You" ... as do I. :-) ... Marvin Berryman

Marv... so happy to hear that your Mum is better. Saw on the news last night about the snow in Denver. WOW! It's nice that you have a new laptop, and I'm glad that it is working well. They do come in handy when you travel don't they? Guess you will have to dig out the driveway when you get home...Ugh! Take care...Fay

Hey Marv, Hope your mother is doing OK now. My dad, age 90 just spent a two day stay in the hospital this past weekend also. Somehow he dehydrated himself and blood pressure dropped to 60 over 45. He is back home again and doing OK now. We have a couple laptops for on the road and use ATT wireless cards ourselves. My wife will be on the computer as I drive.

I'm sending this from North Platte, Nebraska where my mother is recovering in the Great Plains Regional Hospital. The Dr. says she will be able to return to the nursing home in a day or two. Thank all of you for your prayers and good wishes. :-) Marv Berryman

Based on your research, the Aermoters on those towers must have been put there for decoration .... strange.

Good Morning Marv.. Thanks for answering my questions about "Boodle" (yep kit-and-kaboodle makes sense now..lol) and the "sound" of Aspens. The wind blowing through the leaves is a lovely sound. The trees are just starting to change colour here, so I was out yesterday taking shots. It's Thanksgiving day here, so I'll have to get the turkey in the oven soon. Happy weekend..Fay

Hey Marv. It seems you never know what to expect in the blog. Sometimes I see weekend walks appear contrary to what I expect. Usually if not posted 9 to 5 they do not appear until the next business day. Every once in awhile one appears after hours. No reason as to what they do anymore. I still expect a big release Monday morning. Now they are playing with the desktop download again even though it still says the same version. Messes up the wallpaper and screens aver when you try to download a picture.

Hey Marv, look at my messages. This person - who I can not talk to because they have messages blocked - flagged one of my pics because he thought it was copied (it had the WS watermark). The signature he talks about is mine!! It has a watermark because it was one of the images recovered from my backup when WS deleted the entire album about 3yrs ago. One of the images 'in memory of' is a gravestone saying just that! They didn't even have the nous to ask me about it. I will post in the blog - again... Regards, John

Hi Marv, heard nothing. Still think it's the model thing - if it was, the author only had to drop me a line if they thought I had misused it, but a 'fun' pic of myself and Grandma I would hardly class as commercial!! And, it represents ~2% of the image! Maybe it's something totally different, perhaps I'll never know. But why remove 'innocent' pics if only one was 'suspect'? They're crazy here, the protocols seem stupid. In such a litigious place as the USA you would thing they would be a lot smarter than to accuse someone in an email (which over here anyway is evidential in law) of something demonstrably absurd. Ironically, I have only used a couple of free models in 2,500 pics, I can only summise it was picked out of the CC. WS at least left my blog entry in - which surprised me (of course, I am assuming everyone can see it, not just me). Anyway, I'm ready now to zap all the pics and close the account. It's a pity because I am nearly in a position to start browsing the albums, but there you go - or don't go perhaps. I just find this site so stagnant now - even the DA members pic hasn't changed after 5 days. It's worth a look if you haven't seen it. I am not one to criticise others work but this is a humdinger. Even the caption is abstruse. I think it's some out-of-focus biological thing (should have been left in the body, miaow!). On the positive side I can spend more time on our genealogical research (as I see you do) and finally find out where my GGrandad came from - he thought he was English, I think he could well be Irish! I will see what tommorow brings. In any event I will leave you a parting note when I go, regards, John

Hi Marv, thx for your response. The pics are DA and only 2 as I recall have people in them - myself and my wife! Nearly all are landscape/seascape/shapes . One pic has a 3d model in it (a bird-like thingy and a wheel!), I wondered if it was that. They are given free on the internet for personal use as you see fit and sometimes 'not commercial use' (which of course mine isn't). I hardly ever use them, as quite frankly it's just not how I like to make pics. I only added them as a novelty in the one pic of myself and wife. So maybe it's that (someone claiming it's 'theirs' which is plain stupidity if you have ever used 3d modelling s/w - how could I have what is on someone elses computer?). But of course the email talks of far more sinister stuff and that's what annoys me the most. If any of the album's pics remotely fit the criteria they imply then my guess is 98% of the pics on this site should be removed, including my fractals! Ironically, I was seriously thinking of removing all my pics on here for good as the site is essentially 'dead' for me with the same failures as 2 years ago. E.g. spurious 'members choice' pics (the current one on DA has been there for 3 days, the entire album managing just 8 d/loads in 2 years - so what members chose this one?). But the inactive blog is the worst thing (miss you Terry...). Now I daren't remove my pics as it could be seen as an admission of some sort of guilt! Anyway, thx for the response again, we shall see what Monday brings - assuming someone updates the blog of course... regards, John

Hi Marv. Just a quick question. My album 'Grandads Art' has been removed because, and I quote Because people of all ages and backgrounds share photos and videos on Webshots, we remove material that is offensive to or inappropriate for our membership. We remove pornography, sexually explicit content and violent material. We also remove photos showing full or partial nudity, including those of children. In accordance with our polic IES , we have removed 75 of your photos and/or videos. If we believe that you are engaged in illegal activities, we have the right to share your personal information with law enforcement, including your IP address. Please do not reply to this email. We are unable to respond to individual replies. end quote Which of course (you probably have seen the pics) is total and absolute nonsense. Thing is, can you see my blog entry in the challenge? Apparently, I am the only one to leave any comments in the last 2 days in a total of 10 comments (which is really 12 according to what I see) which I find hard to believe. So, can you see the entries in the blog? I have sent emails to WS vehemently complaining but surprise surprise - no response. I have sent this message to a couple of others who use the blog a bit.

Tks your reply re Windmill Generators! Mucho appreciated. The farming community in Southern African cannot survive without accesss to ground water. I have seen Oryx in Namibia (watching from the top of a mountain) dig with one hoof until the water syphons upwards. Long live common sense!

Marv. You mention - as the Ogallala Aquifer is being drawn down by the farming community, etc. - and is not being replenished by springs or/and rain-water; yes it is sad that productive farming will suffer. On the other hand, the surface land returning to desert means the land will return to its’ {original state} before non-Native Americans began using the land. I came across these words … “In the beginning, it was all United States National Park,” pure and un-polluted. It contained an abundance of wildlife only second to Africas’ Serengeti. Spectacular forests, deserts, grasslands, mountain ranges, rivers, lakes, seashores, etc. And, the estimated twenty million Native Americans lived in harmony with nature’s natural rhythms and systems; whose lifestyle was perfectly integrated with nature by way of their low numbers and lifestyle which - allowed Nature to flourish, be abundant, and healthy. In a mere few centuries, needless to point out, United States National Park has ’drastically’ changed - and been altered. Just a point of view that stands out in my thoughts. Best Wishes, Gary

Thanks so much for coming by, but I have to inform you that Edward was put to sleep on 6th Sept. He had poisoning and his liver and kidneys shut down. It was a very sad day for me as I held him while the Vet gave him the injection that gave him peace. It is so lonely after 14 years of walking side by side each morning to have to do it alone..House is empty and no wagging tail...Take care, I am sorry you didn't know. Shirley

Hi Marv, nice to hear from you. Hope to have more time on here soon (though I do pop on here each day, if only for a couple of minutes) - just a few things to sort out. Seems very quiet though, as previous. We could do with a 'community' blog for chit chat etc. It seems so strange that I can come on here and find not a single new blog entry after 24hrs. Only entered a couple of challenges, not many pics suitable. The pic you mention is of course DA, thought this may put a few noses out of joint! But in these days of photo software I guess anything goes. Can you prove a photo has definitely NOT been manipulated or post-processed?, I don't think so. Therefore there is little point in making 'rules' that try and eliminate it. Anyway, can't see anything for this CC, though a couple of pics from our last walk may be okay, I'll have a look. Will be in touch, regards John, et al

As September 11th approaches, Marv, I hope we can all take a moment to bow our heads in silence and prayer and remember all who were tragically lost on that horrific day in 2001! I have made a video tribute for 9/11 entitled "Where were you when the world stopped turning?", if you get a chance, please answer. GOD BLESS YOU & GOD BLESS THE USA!!! Warmest & Best Wishes, Barbara
