  • Much has happened since we last correspoded several years back. I am Mike Robinson son of Major Robinson. We lived on the mountain from '61 - '65. I had strokes and have lost many pictures I once had. I would appreciate being able to download some of your Hebo pics again.

  • Hi David. I was stationed at Mt Hebo during 1956-58. I came across your name and a your mention that there had been some kind of reunion held in Tillamook. If you have some idea if there is going to be another one, I would appreciate knowing of it. I would be interested in locating a Sgt. Kelley from Tenn. who left the AF with me and found work as a AC Controller in Portland in 1958-59. An excellent man and i thought very highly of him. There were so many fine people that I served wit as a Radar Operator. Wild place for WX tho'. Many thanx, Don Percious

  • David: I live in University Place, near Tacoma, WA. I retired as a LtCol from the Air Force in 1978. I was Vice Commander of the 827th Air Defense Group at Kingsley Field, OR in 1972-74 and we were responsible for support of Mt. Hebo, Klamath, and North Bend Air Force Stations. I visited all three sites during my time at Kingsley. As a former Air Defense Radar Intercept Officer at Portland IAP, OR in 1954-57 in F-89's, and then as a fighter pilot in ADC in F-86L,F-102, F-106 interceptors, I have a great interest in all things ADC. The 25th NORAD/Air Division retirees here still have regular semi-annual breakfast meetings at McChord AFB. A few even from Hebo. Good hearing from a fellow Air Defender! Chuck Wilkinson

  • David - I found your photos of Adair today. My dad (James Ward)and uncle (William Ward) were stationed there during the same time you were. My dad worked in the block house. My dad was also stationed in Labrador. What memories. My sister and I were both born in Corvallis between 1961 and 1964. We all have very fond memories of the area.

  • Hi Dave, Holy cow! What a sight! I was at Adair in the Comm Center from May 1967 - Oct 1968. What a wonderful flashback. I never thought to search for Adair before. I went back to see the station in Spring of 1980, but it was abandoned then and being used as a vocational trade school I think. Thanx for the pics Dave, wow. The gym and the blockhouse are imbedded in my memory; 40 years for me. Kenny Nelson

  • Fantastic photos. I am the chairman of an amateur radio group (www.ocrg.org) who maintains radio equipment and weather stations on the oregon coast. We have a wonderful love of Mt. Hebo, one of our members was a microwave tech for Sprint for years up there, and we have one gentlemen in our tillamook club who was stationed there as well. If you email me directly, i can share a link to our live cameras on the former Bell building. We have limited bandwidth so we have to be carefull with it, but it is awesome to look at now and then. We have another collection of photos about the same era, mostly in the winter. We hope to build up a web page on our site of all the old photos. If you are interested, we would love to post yours there as well. thanks, Daron daron at wilson dot org

  • Hello, I was stationed at Mt Hebo from April 1st 1977 till June of 1980. I was assigned to the dining facility. I am retired from the Airforce now and live in Carlton. I went up to the old Radar site last summer and seen the plaque. That was pretty cool that there. Good memories.

  • David, I remember you. I was in operations at Adair, Alpha crew, Tracking and later in Manual Inputs. I was on the large bore rifle team, judo team, and pulled more KP than any other airman in the history of Adair AFS. I supplimented my Air Force pay by bartending and bouncing at local night clubs. The old T & R in Albany was my favorite, or maybe the Beau Brunble in Corvallis. Thanks for the memories you have given with the photos. curt.beck@mchsi.com

  • David -- Yes, I figured out you knew about the new church and that window after I looked at your 2002 album. Thanks for sharing your photos with the Tillamook church people. Did you enjoy their new stained glass windows of the region?? --Lois

  • Lois, I am aware that the original church building burned down in the 1980s. I did attend church there from 1960 through 1962, and sang in the choir. There was a reunion of former Mt. Hebo AFS people in 2002 held in Tillamook and on the mountain; I located the new church and attended services there while I was in the area for the reunion. After the service, I shared my book of photos with the members--there were several photos not part of my Webshots album, including one of a beautiful stained-glass window. That window partially survived the fire and is now hung at one of the windows in the new building. I sent an electronic copy of the original window photo to the church. The photos of the new facility are found in my Mt. Hebo 2002 album. Regards, David
