Hi there, the macro contest will be ending soon and I just wanted to let all the wonderful people that took a stab at guessing on my photo what they were actually looking at up close. GUESS ME . . . CC-Mystery-01, http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2143094690039623835oqfalg, is actually a macro of the ice formations on the cover of our Hot Tub. I took the photo's right after getting my Canon EOS 40D. I think the brown color showing through the ice gave it a metallic appearance. Thank you my friend for your guessing, it has been a very fun contest. - Kirk
Thanks a lot for your comment. I invite you to review the rest of my Lancaster County Album. I make every attempt to take pictures that honor the Amish and their wishes.
Yes, snow in Shoals, IN isn't a real common occurrence. But a fresh coating of snow always does the landscape wonders. That picture was from a couple of years ago.
Hi Dave - The falls were spectacular yesterday! It was like taking a shower on the observation deck, it usually somewhat misty on a normal day, but it was drenching. Surprisingly, not too many people were there, the parking lot was busy and full, but it was like any other day at the falls. I really had wanted to change the lens, but it was so wet, I was concerned about opening the camera body to it. So in the truck on the way up to the falls, I decided to use my 16-45mm for the best variability without changing lenses. My fisheye 10-17mm would have been cool, but well, again too wet! My 55-300 would have gotten some very cool close ups... wa, wa, wa! Yesterday after coming home I was reading about shooting in the rain and read about people using bags, scarves, etc., to shelter their gear. (I've used umbrellas of course.) But the bag idea made me think that a person could use one in some way to make it possible to change a lens w/o exposing the camera body to the moisture. I'll have to do some experimenting here at home and see if something would work. Well, too many words! Hope you're having a blessed Sunday. - Madge
Dave, so you know where the old smokestacks used to be in Murray? THat is where the new hospital is! Just west of state ..a little north of 5400 South, and it is HUGE! IT has been open exactly one year now..it is super hard to fit all the buildings into one shot..but if you look at the very end there are two smaller buildings..anyway, I got them all in there..amazing huh?
Thank you Dave. Now THAT was a surprise this morning. LOL
Yep, we need some new red shoes to pass around now, the others are worn out. Many thanks for your comments, they are very much appreciated. Warm wishes Lyn
Hi Dave! Are you still chasing Geckos? I was looking for you weekly 3PAW and didn't see them--hope you will let us know when you add them. Greetings, Sharon
The rookery is in Boise along the river. It is down a little ways from Barber Park. Facing the city it is on the left side of the river. Back away from the water a little. I have gotten some real good shots from the area. The Boise river is a great area to explore around the city.
Hi Dave! Interesting info about your grandfather and the sundogs. My Dad and Bob's Dad used to plant crops during certain phases of the moon, but I don't know if that helped or not.
Dave -
Left a message on your fabulous Al Ain birds album, but thought I'd leave one here, too... Don't suppose you're birding this friday (the 17th) and want some company? Back to the States Sat. 2am.

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by my 3 Photos a week and commenting on my storm photos. We don't live in TX - we live in IN!! That's why it was so rare for us to get that kind of wind storm. Take care! Kris :)
Hi David,
Lovely shots of your garden in Al Ain. I'm with the National newspaper and am looking to talk with a gardener. pls email me at: rmcknight@thenational.ae
thanks
David, I truly believe you are cutting yourself way short about your photography..believe me, I live this stuff day in and day out pretty much, and I believe I have a good eye for what is visible as professional shots..I can tell you, YOU HAVE IT! I could tell you if you put yourself out there, you would find out that I am right! Sorry, I hope I am not coming across arrogant about my eye to see talent, but it is not meant to come out that way..I just know what is good when I see it, that's it!
Hello Dave. Thank you so much for congrats on feature photo from my “Just roses” album. I been traveling , couple week with no PC, and got home to the big surprise, while I was on vacation.
Hi Dave! Thanks for your kind message on my photo of the Monarch Butterfly being featured POTD today. It was a real surprise to find all the messages when I got up this morning. I'm running behind because we always go to church services on Sunday--I know I'll be late thanking everyone this week and I'm trying to write in 3PAW albums also! It was a great "day after our wedding anniversary" surprise! Of course, that had nothing to do with it, but I can play like it! I hope you have a cool place to relax and enjoy your week. Hugs, Sharon
