  • Thanks for the kind comment. Yes your right the Alabama Hills are not in Alabama they're actually in California a bit NW of Death Valley. Best wishes, C.

  • Me again. Just one correction to my last note -- I used "circular waves" mostly, not "cylindrical effect". Just realized my mistake when I went to use the program on another photo.

  • Hi once again -- For the "altered" photos, I mainly used a free program called IrfanView. Under "Options" the program has a menu called "Effects" and I just played around with the effects on various photos. Photos were resized to a width of 1024 as I found that the best size to work with for the effects. I also raised the contrast and saturation of the colors in the photos as that made for a more effective result. There aren't very many photos that work well with this alteration method because most of the altered photos turned out downright awful. The main effect I used was the cylindrical effect sometimes along with some of the other effects until I came up with something I liked. I think photos with a strong vertical line worked the best.

  • Hi again and a Happy New Year to you. Thanks for all the comments on the Florida album. Love getting the identifications of some of these plants. I didn't have a chance during our short visit to identify many of the plants. There sure is no lack of plants to identify either. We hope to go back again sometime and then I plan to take more photos. Ilona

  • Hi -- Thank you for all the comments on the cloud album. The photo that looks like I was above the clouds was actually taken from our yard. We are on a slight incline thus can look over the houses nearby. This also opens up a wide expanse of sky unobstructed by anything. A little bit a a zoom on the camera lens, a little cropping and voila! a photo that looks like it was taken from above. These large clouds are generally early summer clouds when some of the stormiest weather occurs around here. Now in December it's just one big cloud cover and today along with dense fog I can barely see past the trees in the yard. Loved your story about the woodchuck. My brother-in-law had the same experience with several of them. He eventually was successful in keeping them out of the garden but it was quite a battle. Happy New Year! Ilona

  • Well we do lose our power, but if we are lucky, not for long at a time. We had a major ice storm in the late 90s and they have done a lot of work on power stations and lines so we don't go a month without electricity in the freezing cold again. We were only off for an hour the other day, though the other part of town was off for half a day. Tomorrow is going to be horrific, it is pouring rain now and freezing tonight. Thank you so much for your note.. I am glad you enjoyed the photos!!! :-)) May I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year, now, while I have the chance xox

Yes we got hit with snow, then freezing rain then snow again.. mother nature was catching up as we had such a good and snowless fall and early winter lol Thanks so much.. and have a very Merry Christmas or whatever holiday you celebrate :-))) xox

  • I was looking for photos of 1566 Marina Drive Slidell Louisanna and i found this site..i love the pictures. The ones of the Huricana Katerian i am most interested in. Do you have any of this particular house i mention? My old high school boyfriend lived there and i think they rebuilt but i can not find out. I did find out they were not home during the storm and came back later but not sure if they moved on or stayed..thanks for any pictures or information

  • You are right..that is a papaper or poppy. It is a peony poppy or papaver liciniatum. I love them too :-))) How are you? Seems like ages!! Hope your summer has been good!!!

  • Thanks for your comment on the cardinal in winter. At present I'm not posting many new photos since it's summer and that's prime bug season and so I'm trying to add to my life list of photographed (and identified) insects in the neighborhood. Up over 550 now and hope to reach 600 by the end of summer.

  • I passed 100,000 views today. What a thrill that was! I remember when I began posting photos a year ago last week, that seemed an completely unattainable number. Thank you, all my dear friends who take time from your busy lives, to look at my photos and especially to those who are kind enough to leave such supportive, cheerful and sometimes humourous comments! You put a smile on my face every morning and I am more motivated to try to get outdoors, to get better photos, than if you were not there wishing me well! You all inspire me in so many and different ways. I have learned so much from your suggestions and from observing your styles and tricks as well as being inspired by the way you live your lives. You all have a keen eye and fine talent for a great photo, but even better hearts! We all crave a feature or a POTD, but a charming word of praise from a webshots friend means even more to me, on a bad day. All of you miraculously speak English, or make a marvellous effort and are so patient with us who do seem to take over the net and the world with our language. We have so much more in common than we have differences, even if we live in vastly different climates, circumstances and landscapes; love of learning, family, friends, curiousity, but most importantly, we all speak the universal language of the miraculous camera lens to illuminate our own lives as well as others. I hope I have forgotten no one.Merci beaucoup! Vielen Dank! Bedankt! Merci villmahl! Diolch yn fawr iawn! Grazia! Grazie! Spasibo! Dziekuje! Ahéhee'! Muchas Gracias! Çok sagolun! Baie dankie! • Hi there good friend, I hope you had a good Easter. We had snow on Easter Sunday! We visited Coalhouse Fort to see if we could find anything Paranormal. To share what we saw, visit my Most Haunted album. To enjoy it as it is meant to be seen, watch it in slide show mode with special effects on, and your P. C. speakers turned on. Enjoy Colin

  • Yes they certainly did!!! lol During long American winters too. My father's family is American! They moved here when he was very small, but most of his family returned to the USA. What is your first name, if it isn't impolite to ask?? I love memoria con amore. That is even nicer than memento mori as that assumes you have to be dead..for it to be appreciated! Hugs, Donna

  • I will look forward to seeing pix of your paperwhites and camelias. It is hard to imagine flowers right now, though as you say once they start sprouting its amazing how quickly it all happens!! It is months away though.. Do you go down to the N.O. celebrations of Mardi Gras? We celebrate it here also, but call it Carnaval. Quebec City has the biggest celebration in the province, with ice sculptures and parades etc over two weeks.. much like yours but colder lol
