Hello, Darlene! I love your "antiquing" collection and would love to use a couple of the photos as screensavers. But I have a Mac computer and I keep getting the error message: "AppleScript error. The variable thelmg is not defined. (-2753)." And the word it keeps using is "thelmg." Any suggestions?

Hello, Darlene, I just discovered you, hahaa! Your album "antiquing" is breath taking, and I imagine you have got this question a million too many times but how did you do that??? I only had time to browse though your Christmas and autumn albums this time but I have to say I am fascinated with your work, it is intimate, beautiful and inspiring all at once to me and I can't wait to come back. I am only starting to explore the art of picture taking. Tips and feedback greatly welcomed! Greetings from Canada, Marta

The fish boil is an essential Door County experience. Whether it's a good Door County experience isn't the point. The first, in 1962, was at the Viking Restaurant in Ellison Bay -- the Viking still does it -- and now it's all over the peninsula."A lot of people think it's a Scandinavian thing," says Kurt Knudson, fish boiler at the Viking for the last seven years. "But there was a 97-year-old woman from Sweden here about a year ago, and she said she's never seen anything like this." Here's how it works. Kids, don't try this at home until the folks leave. Bring half a kettle of water to a boil over an open cedar wood fire. Add five pounds of salt to the kettle, along with a steel basket full of scrubbed potatoes. After 10 to 12 minutes, toss some smallish peeled onions in with the potatoes, then lower another basket -- this one filled with chunks of locally caught whitefish -- over the vegetables and into the kettle water. Throw in yet more salt, and bring the whole thing back to a boil. "Every fish boil, in my estimation, is a little bit different," says Knudson. "Some don't serve the onions. In the south part of Door County, they use carrots as well." Now comes the drama. Get the cameras ready. After 12 minutes, pour fuel oil over the fire (not, please, into the kettle). Big, raging flames happen, which singes the hair on Kurt Knudson's forearms and makes the kettle boil over. The boilover accomplishes two things: First, it sends the water's surface scum, and bits of fish fat and other unpleasantness, over the side, leaving the whitefish steaks clean and appetizing, if you like whitefish steaks. "The other purpose," says Knudson, "is so you won't forget a fish boil." The fish, potatoes and onions, now cooked and de-scummed, are then distributed cafeteria-style to diners, all topped with melted butter, along with lemon wedges and coleslaw. Traditionally, cherry pie is served for dessert, which effectively kills off the aftertaste of the salty buttered fish and vegetables.

Hi Darlene! I just got back from the "Arctic Circle" with National Geographic where we searched for "Polar Bears", sailed with Ice Bergs and marveled at the spectacular Glaciers before Global Warming takes it all away. Hope you and your family/friends enjoy it just as much as I did! Lauryn/Charlotte, NC, USA

Hey Darlene ..... I've just found your site and your terrific pictures. I am just putting together a YouTube video of me singing 'Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas' and also 'White Christmas' and would like to use just your photos in the slideshow. Do I have your permission to do this? I would obviously acknowledge you in the video description. I have some more songs just about ready - 'Stranger in Paradise' and 'Stormy Weather' and would consider again using your photos ... with your agreement. Have you any thoughts on this? See (for example): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXJnylBbkz0 Very best regards Andre
