Hello LiquidNirvana,
I am having a little problem maybe you would be the only one to be able to help me out with.
I have a 1962 Lark IV, 40hp. (model #35530 Serial#50103), it reads on the bracket tag 56,57,58, as for the patent years. According to your records posted on here, and ones I have found elsewhwer, it seems to be a 1962.
Now to make a short story longer, I am having trouble finding a wiring diagram for this, I have a CLYMER Evinrude Johnson outbourd shop manual 1.5-125hp-1956-1972 manual, none of the wiring diagrams match up, they all say with generator for that year, I see know generator. I don't know how to tell if this is a distributor or flywheel magneto, or what it is. I see no junction box near the rear of the motor in which a solenoid would be, or no wires leading to where a solenoid would be.
The harness entering the motor has larger red and black wires (4gauge-ish) heading directlty to the starter, to smaller blacks going up uynder the flywheel area, then over to the vaccum operated cut out switch, ablue wire leaves there and heads up to what appears to be a magnet on the underside rear of the flywheelpossibly a shut off switch??
-Two wires come into the engine and are capped off and tie together with what looks to be a factory, aluminum tie strap blue and yellow,(no number on it)
Blah blah blah, if you check out my profile, I only have one album, its titled LARK IV Wiring, it'll show you what the motor is, maybe you could be so kind as to tell me what kind of ignition system this is, how to turn it over or where I can find the schematics etc,
thanks for your time,
Mike,
BobcatGuy
Hi Mate!
Down here in Australia we don't have many brand specific "nuts". I am a 33 year Merc fan, but I am hoping you might be able to solve an argument I am having.
You see as a youngster I remeber reading an article about the ongoing power war between OMC and Merc. Am I correct in that OMC built a 4.0 V8 and Merc a 3.9 T4?
If so have you got any links for more info and pics?
Thanks for your help and keep up the great work!!
Hello Ken,
I was just rteading some of the info on CCC's and it says that you can fit a CCC powerhead to a standard leg, this is however no correct as the CCC has a different exhaust manifold which will not bolt up to a standard mid section and a the CCC adapter plate will not bolt onto a standard mid as it is much larger to fit the exhaust manifold.
Cheers,
Des Maslen ( you actually have a couple of pics of my boat with the CCC on your site )
Ken:
My name is John Sheldon (Rotaryjohn). I'm the guy in the dyno photo on the right and was the project engineer on the rotary race engine. I have written an article on the rotary racing engine; The Real Story. I have more picture of the rotaries. Drop me a note at bjsheldon@pineland.net and I'll share all I got.
Do you know anybody who is tuning E TEC engines?
I have bought an E TEC 300 but it does not seem to have that kind of power.
Do you know any tuning companies?
Hi Ken...Recently acquired a 1952 3hp Evinrude (model 3012)and I do have it running. I see your album on the original instruction manual for that motor. Any chance of getting a hard copy? Thanks Dennis (Florida) (dennis7366@aol.com)
Ken,how are you doing? Happy Easter....Hope some day we can meet. If you have anything you would like published on my web site send it to me. Back here in Illinois I am the resident OMC historian, but I have no wheres near the knowledge you hae. I have been buying up old OMC stuff for 7 years and hopefully soon I will be able to build another building on my property and dedicate it to an OMC and river rat site...my own personal museum, that will be open to the public when I am there...Tom
Recently I saw the photos you have of Jimbo McConnells Goat Boat. When I was a kid I was a big fan of Jimbo McConnell. This looks like the boat he ran in madison wisconsin for the north american championships. Is that where these two were taken?? How can I get copies of those two photos as they bring back so many memories. That was my first boat race. I remember that the goat boat was kept covered up until it went in to the water. Pretty cool! I have photos I have taken on my facebook page that goe back to the eighties during the various Minneapolis Aquatennial races. Please e mail me at bruceheindl@yahoo.com. PS I miss the Johnson V-8 OMC sponsored US tours back from 1982-1986.
Hey Ken,how are you. Check ot my site for pictures of 2008. I have a question, in your albums there is a picture of an Evinrude X-115. Do you know where it is located and if it is for sale? Hopeyour doing ok, have a great upcoming holiday season. Thanks, Tom Arambasich www,freewebs,com/switzerc raftreunionregattas/
Hey. It`s awesome to see someone as dedicated as yourself to Evinrude and Johnson outboards. I`m a crazed fan myself, and I hope to create something similar one day.
Just wanted to tip you off a little something; Here in Norway E-tec engines are really grabbing marketshares from both Yamaha and Mercury.
Please visit www.batliv.com, and see for yourself a fully rigged 27ft RIB with twin 300 E-tecs (each put out aprox. 330 hp)...... and it tops 83,1 knots. And even better.........from 0-50 knots in 4,96 seconds!!!
Keep up the good work!
Knut F. Clausen, Porsgrunn, Norway
Great site! Thanks for all your hard work sharing this sometimes obscure information!!!
I was wondering if you have any literature or information on late 1950's Gale Goodyear Sea Bee motors? I recently bought one and plan on restoring it.
We are closing our boat repair shop in Oregon. We have several really old antique outboard motors. Would you or anyone you know possibly be interested in buying them. Some of them still run. They are all in pretty good condition for looks. Randy already threw out the junk ones a year ago. UPS says we can not ship them so they would probably have to be freight shipped or picked up. We are in SW Oregon on the Calif. border at the ocean.
