  • I loved the old pictures of Saranac Lake and of Ray Brook. My father was sent to Ray Brook circa 1943? When he was better (but never cured) he worked as a waiter in the dining room there and we lived in Saranac Lake. That was back when they had 3 elementary schools, Broadway, River St and Petrova. We lived on Franklin Ave, Virginia St, Charles St, Forest Hills Ave and Lake Flower Ave. We still go up to visit the most beautiful area in the world. I have lots of old Ray Brook pictures and would love to copy some of yours of Saranac Lake to show my granddaughter. Anyone who went to Broadway circa 1955-1959 I would love to hear from. bclements1218@aol.com

  • Hi, I loved all of your pictures of the NY region, especially Lake Chateaugay and the town of Chateaugay. My great-great-grandfather was the first white man to settle in this area and he married a Mohawk Indian. He settled in Duane, NY, and a mountain and a pond were named after him and they are still on the NY map, Debar Mountain and Debar Pond. My family use to go to Lake Chateaugay and stay at Belmont Beach on the lake. We had a 28' Indian trailor and a 14'foot boat in the water, that my Dad use to load off the roof of the car with a block and tackle on a weeping willow tree that grew on the beach. Mrs. Rubado was the propieter of the restaurant that was near the beach.

  • Hi Dunott! I have several ancestors from Clinton/Franklin County and am making 'genealogy books' for my children. Could I possibly get copies of some of your photos? They will not be published and are for personal use only. I have no photos of people so photos of their surroundings would mean a lot. Thank y

  • Hi Dunott, My sister was married in Plattsburgh 50 years ago. She spent her honeymoon at the Sun and Sand Motel that you have a photo of on here. I would like your permission to use a copy of it in her 50th Anniversary memory album that I am making. How do I get a copy of it? Is it possible to email me a copy. It will not be sold I promise. Thank you so much. hummergal3701 cbcovell27@verizon.net

  • Hi Dunott, Your photos of Ellenburg/Ellenburg Center are great. I have some old postcards from the early 1900s, and a photo of my Carpenter ancestors, all standing on Carpenter Street. If you would like me to forward them, I would be more than happy to do so. Heather Gibson Seanachaid@aol.com

  • Thank you for the photos of Raybrook Sanitarium. I have a photo of the matrons who worked there, circa 1927, when my mother was at Raybrook as a patient. In about 1923, my aunt wrote to New York Governor Fiorello LaGuardia requesting that my mother be sent to Raybrook for treatment. My mother was sent as a charity patient. Once she was well enough she had to nurse the other patients. She said the nursing experience was good training. Eventually she was sent to a private home where TB patients were housed. She nursed a millionaire's son and they fell in love, but he died. Eventually she was able to leave Raybrook (I don't know when. I have a photo of her there, circa 1927).

  • Thank you so much for writing me back about the old ellenburg church. Yes i have gathered alot of information up from there. I was wondering if that school that you show was the only one in Ellenburg as well. Because I heard the Trudells ( Henry and Zoe)built on there too. They were going to call this place Trudellville but through unfortunate circumstances old Henry Trudells visions for his own town didnt come to be. Apparently they found his family( the visionaires of the virgin Mary to be unfounded. although the family went from door to door soliciting for money to build the church,, i guess there struggles and visions became very much unbelievable to some after awhile. It is a long story. But apparently along with the old trudell school was the church,, which is no loner there,,, but it ,, supposebly having the healing springs undernieth it. I do believe the old school is now a little rebuilt house and is somewhere on bradley pond road. Someone lives there i heard. Thanks for the info.

  • You have a wonderful collection of photos on Plattsburgh Barracks, NY. I was looking through them trying to find a photo of William Chisholm Halliday. He lived in South Carolina, but was stationed here during WW I. If you can think of something that I could use in reference to him, please email me. Thank you. Also, can I download some of your photographs to put in his file?

  • Hello,, I recently joined webshots,, and i see you have alot of postcards on Ellenburgh. My family ,, The Trudells lived there for years and actually had a little church built on Bradley Pond road somewhere,, and they had a school,, they were actually going to try to call it Trudellville. The Trudells have alot of history there. They lived next to the Gregory's. They had square dances and my relatives were quite the fiddle players and musicians. I heard they had quite the dances and were good hardworking farmers. Would you have any pictures of the old Trudell school or church? Thanks a bunch!

  • Hi.I just love your photos of Chateaugay Lake. My husband has been going there for 41 years and we have been going there together with our 4 children for the past 26 years. It is our slice of haeven on earth, our home away from home. We even hope to relocate there some day. We stay at the camp on Owlyout point across from the Owlyout Tavern. What a treat it is to see all those old pics of the Lake!! Thank you, thank you. Rebecca P.S. Is it possible to obtain copies of some of the pics? Rbersch2@aol.com

  • I absolutely love the photos of the Legion Camp at Paradise Point. Would love copies and need to know if that is possible. Also would love to know if you have more photos of the Camp. My son and I went to Tupper Lake this week and I really wanted him to be able to see this wonderplace that we have talked about for so many years. Unfortunately the area is private now. Do you have any idea who owns this and how one would contact them? Keep up the awesome work!
