Sushanth! my ILP was ready in a day for Nathula Pass and the day after for Lachung / Yumthang. It's a very smooth and transparent process and the hotel/travel guys did it for me(just give them sufficient time). You need to sign the identification form for police to get ILP, hence you need to be present there in person. It all depends on the rush, so plan in advance.
(Only 40 vehicles are allowed in a day for Nathula. So it's not just getting the ILP, reaching there early is equally important.)
As for roads there, I'd say, trust BRO. They are geniuses at work.
I can give you the hotel details tomorrow.
Adarsh, excellent, thanks! And yes please, do let me know what hotel you stayed at, in Lachung and Gangtok. I'm also hoping that the Inner Line Permits will be done in a day or two. A friend is visitng Siligui two days before we go there, so we're planning to have him complete the formalities - that is if we do not need to be there while the permits are being processed.
And I'll keep an eye out for the details about the road conditions, thanks again!
Regards,
Sushanth
Hi Sushanth! I had opted for a 2 days and 1 night trip to Lachung/Yumthang from Gangtok; and I believe, mostly all hotels arrange for the same including permissions (You move closer to China border, remember!) to visit these place. The default night halt at Lachung can be extended on prior request at your Hotel at Gangtok.
If you need, I can send you the name of the hotel where I stayed. It may not be the best but is surely decent.
From yumthong you drive for another hour or so to reach Yumesamdong. But the later is not always drivable as the roads are covered with ice in the months of Dec and Jan. So it's always advisable to enquire about it early on at Gangtok. Note: the standard package doesn't generally include Yumesamdong. You may/will have to pay extra money to your driver :-) for the same.
There are many more beautiful places around Lachung which are often/always closed because of security reasons. I advice you enquire about them.
Hey Adarsh! My name is Sushanth, I'm from Bangalore. I'm currently planning a trip with a bunch of friends to Yumthang, and while hunting for details o nthe net, we came across your picture album. Excelent pics man! I was wondering if you could suggest places to stay near Lachung, and also how far it is from Yumthang to Yumesamdong. we're planning to go on Nov 26th, and till dec 2nd.
Thanks for your help!
Regards,
Sushanth
The Guys at careadventure (www.careindia.in) used to conduct paragliding at Ramnagaram. I'm not sure if they still organise the same. You can probably talk to Mr. sheshadri for enquiry(You can get his contact info at the above site I believe).
