Yes, they are real, and this photo is spectacular! This is my favorite place to travel to in California. It's been so long since I've been there, but your photo brings it all back to me so vividly. Loved the way you captured the clouds in the background and the sunlight contrast on the trees! The pic's focus is so sharp as well. The people could be easily mistaken for small woodland creatures at first glance...and in reality, I guess they are.

GORGEOUS!!! I used to live in Felton, California, and loved walking through the sequoias on a very regular basis. Let's do everything we can to preserve beauty such as this. Los Angeles is being overrun by runaway condominium development. All over town, lovely little gingerbread/Cape Cod style houses are being ripped down to build ugly boxes on 1/2 and 1/4 acre lots. Our greedy City Council is selling us out. I want to move so bad, and retirement up north is starting to look better and better.

bearfolk: the smoke is probably a "control" burn which is important in keeping the redwoods healthy (they only drop their seeds during intense heat/fire) as well as keeping the undergrowth low and less fuel for fire. The redwood's bark protects them from the fires. All-in-all a very educational photo for those who don't understand forest conservation.
