continues: Anyway now you have a little insight as to what is going on here and with my poor garden, I am shocked my Calla lilies made it! they are tropical, but I was out there in the snow mulching and covering the most tender things, since it happened so fast, without warning it was awful awful, I hate snow, and that is why I live here, it used to be pretty temperate most of the time, but every year for the last 6 have been way different, very hot summer and colder winters. So when I replace things I will be taking that into account with what I choose to plant, never had to worry about things being hardy beyond 30, now will look for lower temp, and things that can take hotter weather, luckily I do have a few beds that are in the shade except for morning, like the front of the house. Okay I have gone on and on, sorry about that. It is supposed to be high 50's today so out I go to start cleaning up the carnage, mini iris will be blooming soon! take care hugs Rhonda

Faith, the thing is we usually do not have snow in Seattle, that is a falsehood that I have no idea how it got started, we have snow in the mountains, but they are an hour away, and we do not usually even have freezing weather, and never in November and December, it is usually high 40-low 50's daytime and low 40's nighttime in winter, this year has been a nightmare, because if you live where there is usually only an inch of snow or so a year, and it snows 20 inches it cripples the whole city, because we do not have the equipment to handle the amount of plowing etc needed, we were snowed in for 9 days in our neighborhood, we had no mail delivery no garbage service nothing, it was a nightmare, so all the plants had no time to even harden off for winter it was 63 f one day and the next day it got really cold and snowed for 2 weeks, this was the end of November, it was unreal! Then it rained and melted the snow and rained and rained some places 17 inches in 1 day, then the floods, this year has been a total nightmare, and probably a sign of things to come. Also we have been having very hot summers for about the last 5 years, last year it was so dry and hot, most of my roses did terrible last year, because in the spring when it is usually high 50-low 60 it was 110f for 4 days in a row, then 80's for weeks and it fried everything in the garden that was just starting to grow it was a nightmare, I had umbrellas all over trying to save things, so when someone tells me that there is no climate change then they just are not paying attention! We are having record death of large (like over 50 foot) old growth firs, cedars and pine that are dying of thirst in the summer, things are not looking good, that is why I am so involved in environmental issues, I think of all the animals that live out there and what man is doing to the earth and then looking the other way and say it is not happening, anyway off of my soapbox. Where do you live anyway?

Faith, sad news from the today, my Cherry Parfait appears to be dead, so will have to be buying a new one it is one of my favorites, always covered with flowers and buds almost all summer, no smell, but it is so pretty who cares! So hope I have a few this year, they are always better the second year and beyond as long as you can keep them healthy. I am glad you enjoyed them. Do not think I will replace just joey though it is a beautiful rose but always had to fight the black spot with that one. So looking for a new one for that spot too. We have a gorgeous day today here in Seattle getting spring fever for sure, too early to do much but sure want to start cleaning up all the death and debris from the harsh winter. Take care, Rhonda

HiFaith, thank you for spending some time in my garden, and yes they are my roses, they whole garden is a lot of work and I am trying to get to all rose and perennial, since the yard is so big. I only buy Jackson Perkins roses, never bare root always in 2 gallon pots and after they are growing so I can see the shape and branching they will have. I had 36 roses but we have had an unusually harsh winter here in the Seattle area this year, not normal at all, so I have lost a few not sure who yet, but am noticing some little nubs popping out on some and not on others, so we will see. I am afraid Just Joey is gone, one of my very favorites, you can see more shots of the garden in the My Garden albums, there are ones for every year since 2003,when I got my then new camera. most shots of whole garden 2005, 07 and 08, lots of different ares of my yard when I got my then new camera, and in the album titled my house, I enjoy the feedback and like to share my hard work out there every year! So hope you will look and enjoy! Rhonda

I used to have a windowsill full of cacti, but they all died, when the removal van taking the contents of our home broke down and they were locked in a tea chest without light, water or air for 48 hours. I recently rescued a couple of cacti, which somebody had abandoned and they have grown more in a year than the others did in the eight years I had them. The difference is that I now water them every day along with my other houseplants and they have thrived to the extent that I am going to have to repot them on an urgent basis. I'm afraid that by believing people who said that cacti only need watering once a week and did not need much water at all, I had prevented them from growing and probably made their lives a misery, as it was a sunny south facing window sill in the summer and in the winter there was a radiator directly underneath it. I now make sure that the soil is damp at all times and regularly mist them, as they like that too. Hugs, Kathryn

Dear Faith, Our summers here, in the North of England, are nothing like as hot as the ones you get in South Africa, but I always water my dahlias and other flowers every day, once they are actively growing. When flowers are in planters and it rains, much of the water runs off the leaves onto the ground outside the planter, so that the poor plant cannot access it, as its roots are imprisoned in the planter. At least if they are in ordinary soil, they can spread their roots more and soak up whatever rain has fallen, but, when they are in planters, they rely on us to keep them adequately hydrated, and no matter, how much sunshine there is, they will not grow, if there is insufficient water to match it. As long as there are holes in the bottom of the planter, it is almost impossible to overwater them, as any surplus just runs out. The sun-rain balance has got to be right for optimum results, and I would say that it is better to err on the side of generosity than to risk depriving them of water. I am sure that they would prefer being cool and damp to parched with thirst. After all, we happily immerse ourselves in the sea and swimming pools, but being in a desert with no water is a nightmare, so it must be the same for other forms of life too, as none can exist without water.

Dear Faith, How delightful to receive all your lovely comments on several of my albums. Firstly, because you opened it ,this rose is a gift 'just for you', especially for you. SO pleased you enjoyed it....'Beginning of Feb', Like you trying to imagine snow while you are enduring a heatwave, I find it hard to emagine hot sun after three weeks of minus zero temperatures. However, I'm so pleased that my pictures enabled you to feel a bit cooler. I wished I had your E-address last week as I was sent a power-point slide-show of snow which would have been guarranteed to lower your Temperature! Amazingly, the snowdrops have survived the snow, and now it has melted at last, are blooming their little socks off. God certainly has created some beautiful and wonderful things...The visit to the nursery was great. The honeycomb people are the smiliest people I know, always cheery and full of fun. I gave them your love and it was appreciated, and theirs was sent back to you!... I send mine too, God bless you, and may it get a bit cooler for you soon, Hugs, Sheila.

Faith, Thanks for commenting on my picture of Abraham Lincoln today. What a surprise it was to see my image on the homepage!! This piece of art work is from the American five dollar bill. I simply cropped the face, and put it on a black background. Have a great day! Chris H. from Portland, Oregon

Dear Faith~ I have wonderful news! Susan came on and posted a message for everyone so I am delivering it to all that have written her messages of love and hope. Here it is: I have to put this on Peechez's site!!!!! This is the happiest day of my life. After a terrible weekend getting over the Chemo. I no longer need Chemo!!!!!!!! Yes!!!!!! My blood work is fine, I have 10 days of radiation treatments left. God willing, I will be done. I don't know the words to say, accept I THANK GOD, AND YOU!!!!! I cherish every prayer, well wishes, kind word, picture, graphic, Man, Women & Child for being there for me. Then there is Peechez, what do you say about an Angel that never gave up my fight. Mailed me letters, because I was to sick to print them. Do we really know what a gift we have in this wonderful Women? God sends us Angels, who have walked been challenged even greater then I. Who gives their strength, love, hope, and faith freely. That's our Peechez!!!!! I Thank Her & all of you!!!! Love Susan *I thank you as well for all your support to our dear Susan. Please, keep the messages coming for her. As you can tell, they mean so much to her and there is so much power in love. Hugs, Peechez

Hi Faith, I twas lovely to hear from you again after such a long time. I now no longer have the time to spend on W/S as my work has become very busy and takes up most days now. I manage a charity for Young people and we are trying to raise funds to build our own premises so that we don't have to fork out a fortune on rent each month. A very time consuming process. I do however still try and reply to all those who leave me a message and would like to thank you for your kind words. It is a great feeling to knw that others enjoy looking at the images I create with what little talent I have :-) You have certainy been busy with your camera since I last visited and I love you Classic Car albums. There really are some crackers and I look forward to viewing them all real soon. Best wishes for now and keep up the good work. Craig x

NEWS:As you know,I have been mailing Susan all her messages so she would get them even though she wasn't well enough to come on the computer. I heard from her today and she had wonderful news to share with all: A NOTE FROM SUSAN: Good Morning Peechez, I can't thank you enough for the beautiful letter, and letters from all. Now I have to tell you a story. I came home yesterday, still very blue about everything. I opened the manila envelope and started to cry and pray. I had just come back from the Doctors and he said 16 more treatments. I knew I couldn't and wouldn't do them. My throat couldn't take it. I tuned the rest of what he said out. Gordy was angry, and said Susan you have to do this!!!!! I told him he can do them for me. Is he nuts? I have no throat left as it is. The Gal that sets you up tried to explain everything to me yesterday, but I couldn't hear her, because I was so scared. I got a call from the hospital to come down right away today. There was a Women there that wanted to talk to me. So I went down, Robin the tech and a Doctor I never meet before, explain everything. They had shown me a picture of my lungs. The Cancer is almost all gone. They have to do this one area, that is no where near my throat or upper chest, that Cancer is gone!!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear I am going to write a book on the power of prayer. Before I went to the hospital I prayed to God for an answer, show me what to do. It was in my hands all the time. In a Manila Envelope. It seems sometimes we are in such emotional, and physical pain, we can't see what is right in front of us. I had the answer all the time. It was square in shape, but it had all kinds of hearts inside. Thank you for all your prayers, and faith!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most of all I am greatfull to a Peach of a Gal, who took the time to send me your letters. With All My Love, Susan *Clearly, all of our love, support and prayers are doing just what we hoped. Lets keep it up! Thank you for helping to make this what I had hoped, an outpouring of love! Hugs, Peechez
