Yesterday evening I log onto Webshots and what a nice surprise, I see the Walter Jones dock on the front page! Congratulations on a well deserved POTD honor! Mandarin made the national scene. Great shot, the water looks surreal. I downloaded the HDR software you told me about, it's a nice easy tool to use. Thanks for the advice. There is a new park on the river they opened recently called Alpine Groves. If you have not tried it yet, I think you would like it. Large oaks with spanish moss along the river. It's a few miles south of Racetrack Rd. Between the results you and Randy produce, I might just buy a Nikon. Keep it up-Tom

Hi Candis, I have not personalle eaten at the Old Spanish Sugar Mill (in DeLeon Springs S.P.), but I gave some friends a gift certificate and they really enjoyed it. It's still on my "to do" list, maybe when some family from out of town come visit. Russ

Thanks so much for your nice comment on my Lunar Eclipse album! Staying up all night was something I have not done for a long time, and probably will not do again for another long time! I took approximately 240 photos between 2 am and 5:30 am at various settings to help insure some of them would be usable. Then, not being an expert in photo editing, the first collage took three+ hours to make. So after all that time and effort, it was sure nice to get some positive feedback. The images are also being featured in two local newspapers, which is exciting! Thanks again, ~Randy ************************* ************************* * NEW ALBUM NOTICE: You are cordially invited to a special private showing of an exciting new album titled MAGICAL MYSTICAL TOUR. Coastal fog, while having its downsides, can also be a mystical, ghostly, even dreamy and inspiring phenomenon. Its rapid formation, multiple layers, varying densities, sporadic and often unpredictable nature, and ethereal interaction with sunlight has inspired poets such as Henry David Thoreau and many others, some of whose works are included in this new album, along with some fascinating and beautiful images and interesting educational information! Please join me, when you get a chance, for a MAGICAL MYSTICAL TOUR of the foggy southern Oregon coast! Satisfaction guaranteed! Reservation not required. Casual attire and a jacket are recommended.

Here are the few I kept from last Sunday at Walter Jones. 4-8 are the recent ones I think. Lighting was not bad, but not great. http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/547952583NREafJ?vhost=outdoors Thanks fore the HDR info, I'm going to give it a shot.

I just read the question on "Twighlight" and I probably answered it below, yep it's Walter Jones. however, I disagree with your need for more practice. The biggest thing in sunsets, in my opinion, is the luck of lighting. If the clouds are not in the mood to cooperate, it's tough to make something out of nothing. Ansel Adams has spent over a week at a location waiting for the right light. I went Sunday night because it was the first time in about 2 weeks we had any kind of clouds that would work for sunset. 105 shots, 2 that I liked. I'll post those in the next day or so. "Twighlight" and "Liquid Gold" was a lucky 5 minutes of light I just happened upon, nothing more. Another time I went fishing in Palm Coast, sat on the rocks watching the sun rise, and realized I was lucking into a nice set of clouds over the ocean. I only had a lame Sony point and shoot in the tackle box (for fish pics) and shot some halfway ok shots. I firmly believe lighting is key to these shots. Another thing worth considering. PPSNF (Pro Photographers Society of North Florida) meets in Mandarin once a month. They offer seminars every week to members, and the one I took was actually in the park. Nice group of people, and alot of opportunity to learn from pros. If yoo want more info on that, let me know. -Tom

Hey there. Thanks for the congrats on my featured photo. Webshots is new to me and I did not even know this was a category pics were selected and posted. I see you were at Walter Jones this week. Small world. That's where I shoot my sunsets as it is about 4 miles from my house, and with kids my time for photography is often limited. You probably recognize the shots in "waterfront" from there. I shot there Sunday night, neat clouds, but only got a couple I liked. One night this summer I got a guy fly fishing and he made a cool silouette. Great park for sunsets. I have heard there is another good park south of Fruit Cove on the river, but I have yet to hunt it down. The sky it great on the third shot in the "dusk"album. Is that HDR? What kind of software do you need to do HDR? Have a good day-Tom

Candis, if your "Dusk on the St. John's" were your FIRST attempt as sunsets, you're off and runnin' ... they're GRAND! The bridge shots look like HDR photos; did you any special effects on them? Whatever you did, your technique is more than wonderful! ... Judy

Hi Candis - You wrote: "This looks just like the horse farm on 235-A in Alachua" - no, it was either on 41 or 19 but I didn't note where. As for our friend's home - she's worked hard as an artist for years plus inheritance helped.
