*blush* Oh my, Clark. So many thanks for the REALLY great comments on my sepia challenge entries! You hit on all the things that brought my eye to those shots! It is really nice to hear! I'd love to see your 'Stairway to Heaven'. Sounds spectacular! Get out there and take a shot of it...please. -DJ

Oh yes, absolutely and you can see them jumping and leaping now and then! The salmon run is virtually over now, it was fascinating for awhile! And there is a beaver swimming toward me in that image!! That view of the slough in my Sepia collection, Heights Across the Valley, is directly behind our home, just a short walk through the forest, and by valley I am referring to the Tanana River Valley as the Tanana encounters the Chena. Visited by moose, fox, many waterfowl, and beaver, as well as other wildlife, it is a tributary of the Chena River. It is wonderful and one of my favourite places to spend the evening! I have many views of this slough area in my Alaska albums. Sharon

Oh, the BIG FIVE O! In December, aye? When in December? I'll be 49 on the last day of the year. That is just sooo cool that the divers gave you that coffee cup (yes, I DO know how to spell coffee)! And a nifty T-shirt too! I used to get the Smokejumpers up in the interior to give me their sweatshirts! We look cool in our deep sea diver and smokejumper shirts! Thanks for the message Clark. I just had to know how you got your hands on that coffee cup! -DJ

Hi Clark, my sepia pictures weren't taken with my big camera, but rather my little Canon PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPH. It has the sepia feature and Ray and I went out to the rural area of Nanaimo looking for something old and interesting to photograph in sepia. We found the horse by the apple tree, but as soon as she saw me she wanted to come and say hello, so I got to pat her velvet nose and have a conversation with her. Also found that old car parked off in the bush, so the trip was worth it. Will have to do that more often and take my 30D camera and see what I can capture. Thanks for your wonderful comments, they mean a lot to me.....hugs, Marion

ALOHA Clark!! Hey bud, thanks again for the very nice things you had to say about my Cemetery pic during the challenge. I'm really glad you liked it -- you sir are also very gifted and it has been a pleasure to look in on your work. So I see Randy is visiting you in paradise, is Betty also? She mentioned an upcoming visit to Hawaii. Boy, I wish I were there, it would be a blast to spend time with the likes of you 3 folks!! Anyway, more writing to do, pray for my keyboard...hah! See you my friend. Brent.

You made some great points in the challenge blog! A good starting point for policies and procedures for Webshots to start out with in the new process of using members to judge the challenges! It would be really cool if the judges were unable to see whose image they were judging too, but that might be impossible. Anyway, thanks for commenting! At this point the ball is in Webshots hands to demonstrate their willingness to improve the process or remain on some sort of power/control trip. It will be interesting to see what happens! -Randy

I was doing it wrong. I have bookmarked both he and Randy evanreese....wow does he ever take good pictures and he has an album of the Oregon Coast. Did I tell you that my sister and I and our wonderful husbands are going down the Oregon coast in September?? I hope to get some really good pictures. If I can come anywhere close to the two Randy's pictures (evenreese and rjsholten) I will be in good company. Cheers... do you know that everytime I look at your stuff I go away singing the Hawaiian wedding song.......see you have quite an affect on me. Marion

Hi Clark, I had a look at the pictures and they are fabulous. I also left some comments but did you notice that there was no profile and you couldn't bookmark him or her, so everything must be kept private. Those pictures were all taken with a little Canon Pro Shot similar to my little camera. What does that prove, that Canons are really good or it's not the camera, but the person who is holding it. Have a good day. I'm off to work......Marion

Hi Clark, I had no clue that shot was on the Hawaii channel. I took that photo in Kona almost exactly 2 years ago. I'll be talking to you and seeing you soon. Thanks, Randy

It is so wonderful that you are also an identical twin!! It is a deeply profound spiritual connection I have with my identical twin sister Karon. Mark and Clark are wonderful names your parents chose for you!! I always have liked our names as well. I have known twins throughout my life who were not so fortunate in the name category.... so for that I am grateful!! Karon and I are separated by 56 minutes and I am the oldest. She is living in the beautiful wilderness of Montana. Thank you for sharing that with me! The image of my sister and me at 9 months is my favourite. We have so very few photographs of ourselves when we were young. My parents were apparently not 'into' photography unfortunately for us, so there are very few images of my early life. The one of she and I together in our lavender baby dresses, which I still have, is still within it's original frame and is the only copy. So I digitized it for my sister. It is a fascinating technique they used in those days with the processing and colour. Here is a link for you I think you may enjoy. As you have probably already noticed, I have a wellspring of research hyperlinks as I study the Hawaiian culture and language on a deep level. This one is wonderfully interesting, helpful and a great resource for translations. There is an English hyperlink top right of the page you may choose for format in understanding. http://wehewehe.olelo.hawaii.edu/

Good morning Clark, or should I say Aloha, hope you have sunshine there in beautiful Hawaii because we don't have it here on Vancouver Island this morning. I'm so glad you like my macros. I love taking them and I use a Tamron SP AF Di 90mm 1:2.8 macro lens. It takes a bit of getting used to, but I love my results. One of the things it does when you have it on autofocus is zoom beyond your point of interest and then you have to click it onto manual and bring the zoom back to the starting point and then click back to autofocus. Other than that it is a beautiful little lens. I look forward to your trip to the botanical gardens and I agree with Brent, you are a lucky person to be living in paradise. Have a really, really good day and keep snapping pictures with that wonderful Canon camera. They are a treasure........Marion

Aloha 'auinala Kalaka! I am so happy you enjoy the fantasy of my portals! You are one of the few who realize the deeper meaning and esoteric symbolism hidden within my images and titles. Most people don't 'get it' and only see the images on a superficial level. A secret I will share with you is that if you take most any of my titles with my digital art and type it into your browser, it will reveal some of my areas of study, research and interests. Especially with my Hawai'i images, although with many of them I provide the hyperlinks. Haoli ~ Earth Heart is one of my favourites, and when I created it, it was with the last step, after enhancing and adjusting curves, smoothing and saturation tools, when I spherized it that I actually exclaimed out loud in delight for it was such a surprise! I was mesmerized by how the tropical foliage wrapped itself around the lower part of the sphere as if the suspended sky and ocean were resting hovering in the valley. I am so pleased you enjoy it! Mahalo A nui loa e lokahi. E pili mau na pomaika 'i ia 'oe, Malama pono, A hui kaua! Kalona

Hi Clark, Thanks for the visit, and the compliments. They are high praise from one who lives there. The sunset photo you were curious about is, I think, taken at LahiLahi point (Makaha). I am not certain as I was driving around with some friends and just pulled over as the sun was setting. My favorite sunset shot from that lot is in my Sunset album..Glad you enjoyed the album, and thanks again. Cheers, Haig/Phoenix By the way, do you know what is that yellow flower I had a macro of?

A Hawaiian Howdy to you Clark!! I wanted to respond as quickly as possible on your kind remarks about my challenge picture of the courtyard in Civita. I unfortunately have a modem that is quickly heading to the grave. I don't know how long it will continue to work -- So I'm having to cut and paste a lot of my response comments. I had hoped to express my gratitude to you and everyone else with personal messages that were tailored by comments you have left today and in days past. So, while I only have an opportunity to pass along the same thoughts to all, please know that your comments are really encouraging and a blessing. I stand with some amazing company as the other 2 winners were most deserving with their works. I hope to soon visit more of your albums when time permits and when I have a new modem installed. All of God's blessings and favor on you. With warm regards, Brent. P.S. I sure am envious of Randy's trip out there to paradise!! I look forward to seeing the pictures you each post of his visit.

Very funny comment, Clark. Made me laugh! The captain keeps everything lashed down pretty good tho. Tho not as hard core as Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch, he goes out off-shore aways sometimes and it can get fairly nasty out there in the Gulf of Alaska. You can check out my Trolling in SE album to see what these guys call a GOOD DAY! -DJ
