Hi Clark, hope you had a great July 4th holiday. Mine was pretty good, still not quite recovered yet from the gall bladder surgery I had to get last Monday. I felt worse than I thought I would, a lot of pain, even though it's only four small incisions in the laprascopic surgery. I pretty much slept the first few days as a side effect of the Percocet. Almost back to normal now, yay! Now I have to catch up with all my replies back to everyone. Thanks for all the photo tips you've been giving me. I appreciate all of them. I haven't gotten that histogram thing figured out yet, but I did print out the Penny Adams article and read it. I'm on information overload right now, trying to remember all the stuff I've been reading in my manual and photo books and magazines. Yes I read the article about the XSi in Pop Photo. I had just recently subscribed to it and American Photo too. I used to get them years ago back in the mid 80s. I've been waiting for books about the XSi to be published and just ordered a book and DVD last week from Amazon. I did get out and shoot some fireworks last night at my mom's house. So, where are your new photos? :-) Rachel

I looked around... remember that I'm in the wilderness... no one around... so I just I did it right there next to them... that one in that picture just laid down next to me while I was P-ing... I was giggling and P-ing... and couldn't believe it!! Laid down within a couple of feet of me!! And then... when I was done.. it got up and P'd!! It was just soooooo special!! Hi Clark, how are you? I'm enjoying my new camera but a few things are giving me a bit of trouble, for instance, autofocus on macros. Can't seem to get the whole flower in focus. And when I take photos of my dog, they come out darker than they did on my P&S. Also, sometimes the color doesn't seem quite right - grass in the morning looks yellowy and a shot I took in the woods makes the ground cover plants look bluish. Overall sharpness seems lacking too. Maybe it's just me. Guess I just have to keep experimenting. I've been reading Scott Kelby's "Digital Photography" book and I'm going to use his tips for sharper photos (tripod, mirror lock, etc.). I want a new tripod now because the one I have is just a pain to lug around, too heavy. I love the IS for taking handheld shots at a lower shutter speed, down to 1/10 second for me. You may have already told me this, but what lenses do you have? We've been having thunderstorms every day this week, grr! Makes it hard to get out and shoot! More of the same this coming week. Guess I'll just have to go somewhere indoors like the Newport Aquarium and see what I can come up with. Hope you had a nice weekend! Rachel

Hi Clark, Thanks for the tip on my new album. I was not crazy about that name anyway so I have changed it to Coastal Adventures. I think I even spelled it correctly. Spelling and math were nev er my strongest subjects. We got home late last night and I have lots to catch up on here before i get back to "Brown" early Monday morning. But I do hope to find some time to phtotshot a few of those photos and work on that album a bit more. Aloha, Randy

Hi Clark, thanks for visiting my new album and leaving your wonderful comments. The last two sentences are a bit of an exaggeration, aren't they? ;-) I think you're just trying to make me feel good, right? But thank you anyway. :-) Anytime you see something that can be improved or you have any suggestions, be sure to tell me, I won't be offended! I'm here to have fun but also to be a better photographer. I am loving my new camera and lenses. The neighbors are probably chuckling at me, taking photos of everything, lying on the ground, aiming up at the sky, LOL. I don't care, it's fun! The last time I had an SLR, it was film. It's so great to just go crazy and take as many photos as you want and not have to pay for all the film and developing, not to mention the instant gratification of seeing your photos immediately. I'm bored with taking shots around here though, so I am ready to get out and about. Might go to the Cincy Zoo this week with my kids and take my mom along as she likes do stuff with us, then I can take my time shooting and they can move at their pace. I'll definitely be taking my tripod! Aloha! Rachel

Hi Clark; Thank you so much for coming by to visit my Springtime album and your sweet comments. Spring is officially over and today is the first day of Summer. I can hardly believe how fast this year is flying by. Congratulations on being featured in Editor's Best Beaches, but it is really no surprise to me. Your beaches are some of the best, ever! I have many of them on my desktop and I love it when they come up to view. Warm wishes to you, Marjie

Hi Clark, congratulations on your featured photo in the Editor's Best Beaches collection! Well deserved! It is a gorgeous image! I finally put up a new album with some test shots from my new camera, taken around my yard and neighborhood. I've taken 560 photos but I only put up 32 and trashed most of the rest. Trial and error! Still reading the manual and trying to figure it all out. Well at least by time I go on vacation somewhere, I should know what I'm doing! I'm hoping to go shoot somewhere interesting this weekend. Have a wonderful weekend! Rachel

Aloha nui loa my sweet friend! I am delighted you are enjoying the beautiful flowering trees! They are such a joy to photograph. The challenge is trying to photograph as many as I can while they are in their peak, in early morning light before the blooms are gone. I scout and locate a beautiful tree, then travel there the following morning around 0630 or 0700 for the most beautiful early morning cool light. It is extraordinary how the blue light enhances the colours so wonderfully! The Royal Poinciana I photographed in evening sunset warm light and it is fascinating how it has a completely different appearance. I will try again and compare the differences in the lighting. I believe the red colours will appear much more beautiful in the morning. I have been collecting many seeds and pods also, with intentions of making leis. It will be such fun! And I have been helping my friends of Ha'iku in harvesting and selling the sweet fruits of Lychee, which I have very much enjoyed! Thank you so much for your wonderful notes, you are so sweet and always encouraging Clark. I enjoy your wonderful and spontaneous observations. I wish you a bright and beautiful Sunday on the lovely gathering place of O'ahu! Aloha greetings from Upcountry on the valley isle of Maui, Sharon

Aloha Clark, I'm working as insurance manager, so I've to work very hardly to manage our travel incentives. Otherwise travelling/going for excursions is our common favourite spare-time with my family. So practically we worked intensively in "everyday life" to allowed us this hobby. I'm very glad due to my sons (age: 8,13) and wife are keen on taking photographs as well and their abilities are improving with age. Currently we're arrenging our next vacation to Caribbean region (Bahama islands, cruise on Freedom of the Seas,Miami, Orlando). This was the main reason why I looked through again our pictures of 2006 vacation. Otherwise we live in Central Europe, so we can fairly easily reach most of the very impressive European cities/region by car. So if we have a little spare time during week-ends, we try to discover as many nice places, as we can and take "some" photos. I'm appreciating and waiting for your comments very much! Aloha and mahalo in advance, Gyuri

Someone drove their Federal fire truck with the lights and siren blaring down into the ocean!!??? Oh my God! That is hilarious!! ahahaha!!!! LOL I can imagine sitting around the campfire with you listening to your stories Clark, it would such fun! Have you written all this down? You should, write a book about your tales and adventures. It would be a wonderful gift and a legacy for your children!

Aloha Clark, I am happy to hear you and your wife will be traveling to Lana'i! I have not yet been on the island. I have been very near it on a catamaran while on a whale watching tour in the 'Au'au channel as we followed a small pod of adolescent male Humpbacks, but have not yet stepped onto the island. Being entirely owned by David Murdock, I thought one needed permission, an invitation or a reservation to visit Lana'i. It will be such fun for you to explore, but from what I understand, it would be good for you to have a 4x4. You have been on all the islands in the Hawaiian chain? Really?? Including Kaho'olawe? And the remote outer islands as well? I would very much enjoy being a part of the restoration of Kaho'olawe Island. That would be so wonderful! I wish you a safe journey! Sharon
