Hello Clark! Your comment on my Cambodia picture truly warmed my heart. Many thanks for stopping by and for the generous message. I want you to know that it is very much appreciated. Best wishes, Suresh

...paid me back on that "kiss of death" for the challenge... shhhhhhhh... say nothing with the word... don't EVEN want to say it... triumph, slam, score, achieve, success... nothing like that. I can't believe one of Deb 'n Rick's Eagle shots didn't even place! That is just a cryin' shame, that is! -DJ

Hello Clark, when is your trip to San Diego and Las Vegas? I believe you said you are going there soon. I look forward to viewing your photos! Have a great week. Rachel

Aloha Clark! You and Jan will be on Maui in a week!! How I wish I could meet you!! It would be wonderful!! Hopefully you will be able to return soon for longer than an hour. It would be such great fun to meet you for dinner and drinks somewhere. I would love to meet your brother and his family. Send me an email if you wish. I sent you one and gave you my cell phone number if you would like to call sometime. Here it is raining at last.... really raining!!! This morning the sunrise was so spectacular as I was driving into Kahului. As the sun rose over Haleakala it cast the most amazing crepuscular rays and mists over the isthmus. And early morning was very warm and humid... then the skies opened up and I think it rained heavily over the entire island!! It was a downpour as I was driving back to Pukalani. So much so I could hardly see out the windscreen!! And now the birds are singing and the air smells so sweet and fresh! I am off to see your new images now. I posted a few yesterday as well if you would like to see. Especially the one of the funny miniature horse at Ke'anae, he was hilarious making funny faces as I was speaking to him. I wish you a beautiful day!! Sharon

I was tooooo close to that bear! I only have one lens... so far... for my Nikon, the 18-200mm VR lens. I could kick myself for I wasn't shooting in RAW yet... started right after that. I went up the line a couple of miles, to Armstrong Hatchery in September of '07. It was really cloudy... a very dark day. I could also kick myself for having set the white balance to compensate for the cloudy day... it made all the shots I took that day tooooooo warm! I need to create an album from that day... got a lot of shots of bear's playing... AND a Mother and cubs snuck up on me that day when I was trying to get a shot of another bear... I'm not a very good judge of distance so I'm not really sure how close I was to that bear... BUT... I can tell you that I was TOOOOOOOOOO CLOSE!! Talk about your heart-thumping captures! I did crop that one a bit... to bring out his eyes. Too bad it's not sharper... then I could crop it more. I'll put up the whole shot... one of these days. -DJ

Hello dear boy!!! Thanks soooo much for your visit with me here at Blue Knob!! I'm so glad I did get out and snap those last week ... this week is mostly fog and freezing rain ... I think we'll be open again next week, but that'll probably be it for the season. The good news is, my shoulder and wrist are really coming along so that next year I hope I'll be able to get to the more exciting skiing areas and take some serious action shots!! I'm looking forward to that!! Up until a few weeks back, everyone was afraid to let me out of their sight up here because of all the ice and my proclivity to fall down and go boom!! haha Glad you enjoyed ... always SUCH a treat to see that you've been by for a visit!!! Hugs ... Lois

Yeah... lost my access after that last post... it's been in 'n out... out mostly!! Even was a beautiful day... but it was out... I guess due to icing on the dish or the LNB or something! That's new!! Thank you for all the hilarious comments!! And the lovely compliments, of course! I can't really crop the one puffin... it's just not sharp enough... and then you'd really see that it's not sharp enough... I am the daughter of a sea captain! ...one could hang their wash out to dry on the trolling poles but they'd probably get a saltwater rinse! ..."shinny out on the outrigger"... NOT ME!!... Come on up for a visit and I'll gladly photograph you doing that!! ...Rugged coastline carved by ice floes... DO NOT bring your Micky Mouse fishin' pole here... unless of course, you would like to "wear" it... I love it when you break into song!! I heard ya!!... That would be sooooo cool to hear all the boats blastin' "Draggin the Line" in googlaphonic stereo over the water!! I would just love that!!... Well.. they weren't the best shots, but I'm soooo glad you enjoyed them! I'm hopin' we'll have fun comparing them to what I get THIS summer!... Laughing about my inability to USE my camera... and seeing improvement (I hope!). I laughed so much at your commentary and I'm soooo delighted that your comedy tour will last all week! ;) -DJ

Hi again, I just saw all the comments, thank you, thank you, thank you, th... . Ok! In the silhouette bridge I prefer the water - the other bridge is nice, but has a little greyness just left of centre in the sky, which I wasn't happy with. The "wrong aspect" is the better shot for me also, but Webshots will not show portrait shots on the homepage (the other was a POTD). I always take three exposures and use Photomatix on some for HDR effect. I also use Dynamic-Photo for some faux HDR, but I always then tinker with Photoshop where I have my own actions, which I also chop and change. Nothing in photograph editing is sacrosanct for me. Purists say it should be as it comes out of the can, but for me even back when I dabbled in the darkroom one would use filters, change focus, use different papers to get the desired effect. Even using different cameras will produce different results, so for me there is no pure - it's all there to be manipulated. I dabbled a little with photography in my early twenties, but it proved quite expensive so I dropped it. I bought myself a digital camera in mid 2005 and haven't stopped snapping since. I'm still learning much like everyone else here and I can see my progression over time. Sometimes I go too far and sometimes not far enough, but I'm happy that others enjoy the ones that come out ok. thanks again for all the comments, Tony :)

Hi Clark, thank you for your kind words on my photographs. I use no filters whatsoever, but have been considereing buying a polarising filter. I am a "shop"oholic! There I've said it. They say the first step is being able to admit that you have a problem. I pretty well play around with almost every shot I take until I find something I like - so much so that I can rarely remember what I did to do it again! Photoshop is my digital darkroom, only brighter and I don't waste as much paper. I'm glad you liked what you have seen so far and welcome you back to see some more. I see that you live in a photographer's paradise - a land with 12 hour sunrises and 11.5 hour sunsets (with 30mins nighttime for sleeping). Thanks again for popping in and leaving a comment, Tony :)

Hi Again Clark -- I just realized that you made comments on numerous photos in my album -- thanks much -- dont know that I deserve the high praise -- just having fun trying to capture some of the spirit of the place before it all looks like Dubai -- for you information the Jahili Fort was the scene the last several nights of classical music -- last my was the Milan symphony doing Mozart and Puccini operas -- what a great setting for this -- all around are the fort towers and inside a lot of Arabic cultural displays, music and dance. thanks again -- Dave Clark

HelloooOOoo dear friend!! Apologies for doing the voyeur thing again, but wanted to stop by and thank you for hopping on the StayDJ band wagon with me!!!! Thank you, thank you!! She's SUCH a dear, bright shining star ... and I know from experience up here at the cabin how frustrating sloooooooooowly opening everyone's lovely photos and trying to comment, only to have the connection go off to see the wizard can be. But knowing that her adoring public clamors for her Alaskan brand of sunshine will help I'm sure!! Thank you again ... for being YOU. All the best ... Lois

Hi Clark - thanks for the extremely nice comments on my Album of Natural Emirates -- I am honored that you took the time to go through the album -- of course as a captive I guess you have no choise -- your witty profile brings a smile -- I like your new album and will have to put the botanical gardens on my list of must dos. (that is do not dos as in two) quite a difference between your greens and my sands. Thanks again -- dave

I think it was the... "inciteful, witty, and optimistic" that sent me over the edge... ope... nope... wait... it was the... "the very pinnacle of outstanding correspondence"... whew... You sure have a way with words!! ...whatever it was my dear friend... they were tears of pure joy!! You always make me feel so special! ....uh... oh... SHOOTSKIS! SNOW!! Noooooooooooooo!!! ....anyway... sheeze... now where was I.... oh yea... I had meant to add that solar bursts to my post to Lois... they've been bad lately... messing with a lot of communications out here. The thing that bothers me the most about my sketchy communications is when I'll be going thru an album... commenting... and then I lose communications. Can't post, of course, that it happened... And then... who knows when it finally comes back... sometimes minutes, sometimes hours, sometimes days.... and I've gone on to other things... forgot where I was on here or what I was lookin' at... I got reminded of it this week, when Deb 'n Rick's album was just featured... I started that album quite awhile ago but got interrupted... meant to go back... but eventually forgot... finally finished it now... I guess it's ok... now that I talk it out... it'll be just fine! I feel fine! Talkin bout peace of mind! I'm gonna take my time! I'm gettin' the good sign!... OOoOOOPs!! Broke into song there!! -DJ

Dear Clark ... I'm honored by your invite and thrilled to accept. I'm also humbled by your visit and your many wonderful and thoughtful comments. I think you "get" me ... which is a pretty special thing!! Thank you so much for all the time you put in on those little photos today!! Please, please don't plan on visiting everything!! I'm a novice and a complete work in progress!! As you would go back in time on my little offerings, you'd see a distinct difference in quality and presentation!! Some of that is due to the new camera, of course, but mostly to the amount of serious energy I'm now putting into what I'm doing (well, as serious as I ever get, that is)!! I'm studying, trying to learn not only the camera's mechanics but the ART of this obsession all the time now!! <laughing> ... Bottom line: Don't waste your time on the older stuff!!!! Most of those albums are travel shots ... many of which I've closed and hope to rework and reopen ... but I keep getting distracted by taking new shots!!! Why IZZAT????? <sigh> Anyhow ... thank you, thank you!!! You've done me great honor and made my day, kiddo!!!!! All the best ... your NEWEST friend ... Lois

Hello again Clark, thanks so much for your many kind comments and advice on my Jamaica album. The cover shot has been changed per your suggestion. ~~ Yes, I have a silly room photo but family and friends wanted to see what the place was like and I'm also posting the link on a travel website for a hotel review. ~~ We only had two whole days in Jamaica and had to leave earlier than scheduled on the last day so I wasn't able to take photos of the gardens like I had planned. If we had more time, I would have liked to leave the resort and get shots of the locals and the real Jamaica. I hope to do that next time. ~~ Re cameras, I had been thinking about the Canon XTi or waiting for the new XSi when it comes out next month, but I will check into the 40D. Unless you are buying it for me, the 5D is out of the question right now, LOL. ~~ Tripod: I have a nice Slik U212 from 1985 that I used with a 35mm SLR (wow, I just checked and the U212 is still being sold, I'm surprised) but it is pretty heavy (6 lbs) so it's unwieldy for travel (on an airplane anyway). I will start using it locally and on road trips. Last year I bought a cheap $15-20 no name small, lightweight tripod from Walmart, but as can be expected, it's not so good. Do you have any suggestions for a good one that's not too heavy? Which one do you use? ~~ I've been interested in photography since I was young, when I tried to get creative with my instamatic, LOL. I've just pursued it off and on. Several months ago, I really started getting into it again, and now I just need to get out and shoot for fun, not just vacation shots. ~~ Thanks again for your help and your suggestions are welcome at any time! Aloha, Rachel

Clark, I know that I don't get around here much, please forgive me for that. I really miss so many here, and you are at the top of the list my friend. I saw your comment on my cemetery shot at Normandy and needed to express how humbled and touched I am by your very kind words. While the visits are sparse these days, your friendship means a great deal. Many blessings sent your way, -Brent.

Hello Clark, thanks for all the invitations to see your stunning photographs. It's always a pleasure to view such beauty. My photos pale in comparison to yours, but I'd like to invite you to see my sunsets from Jamaica at http://travel.webshots.com/album/562667286CRxNOw. The sunset photos start on page 2. Your comments are always appreciated. Rachel :-)

.....Unfortunately, I wasn't shooting in RAW yet at the time... And I got very seasick when we headed out on the ocean to get shots of the whale's breaching... we tried to get to them but the further we went... well... I found out... you can't hurl and shoot... Was lucky to get anything... the light was magical tho when we came back to the inside, calmer waters. ;) -DJ
