How lovely of you to share these pictures online of your beautiful baby son's birth. I have 3 children and only have some after photos of my 3rd child's birth, not during. I would love to go back and have some more photos but you can't turn back time! There pictures are something to cherish always. Your son will be able to look back on these photos when he's older. Elijah is now 2 years old and he is going to be a big brother in April! He is a very easy going kid who loves running naked in the yard(we live in Hawaii)screaming with his other blond naked friends! (for some reason they are all blonds) But yes I am due with twins. The twin thing was completely unexpected. But my husband and I are thrilled to have two babies on the way! I cannot in good conscience go along with the flow here and say how ‘great’ or ‘beautiful’ these pictures are. The fact that this didn’t occur at a hospital makes my hair stand up on end! Before anyone crucifies me, please finish reading... I am a 37-year-old, involved, devoted father of 2 wonderful girls (age 3 and 1). I was there with my wife every step of the way (as much as a husband can be during a birth anyway). My wife is a member of a message board with over 70 active mothers whose only membership requirement is that they were due in September of 2001. This means that almost all political/religious spectrums are represented; it is great for them and she tells me about what is going on ‘on the board’ sometimes. Last month she told me one of the mothers on the board had convinced her best friend to give birth in a manner similar to Elijah’s. They had an experienced Midwife who had delivered many many babies, but there was a complication with the child that required immediate access to a neonatal unit. ---They were too far away--- Paint it any way you want. You want a ‘birth closer to nature’, you don’t like the ‘antiseptic’ feel of the hospital, the lights are too bright, etc... There are sometimes complications that require IMMEDIATE medical intervention if a baby is to survive. It doesn’t matter that 99% (or 99.99999%) births go without a hitch. It is a parent’s RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that if any complications arise the baby has the best chance of survival. To all those reading this post who think I am being too harsh: I get upset hearing about needless suffering. The mother from my wife’s board and her friend have a lifetime of guilt ahead of them. The pictures romanticizing home birth seem to make the rounds but the tragedies never do. Not ONE SINGLE POST in this guestbook detailed any of the dangers (however remote) that can arise during home birth. Give birth in any manner you choose, in a pool, with the lights dim, incense, chanting... Watching my wife give birth made me frantic to find anything that would make her more comfortable. But for you baby’s sake please do it where he/she can get immediate medical help if needed.

Jan 2007 Elijah's birth was very special. I did not experience pain just intensity. The water was extremely helpful and I wish I could have done the same for the twins...but The twins came when my water broke 5 weeks early. I had two extremely different births but having my supportive husband with me made all the difference. Elijah has just turned 4. He loves dinosaurs and sledding. The twins will be 2 in march. The boy is quirky funny and our girl is playful and sweet. We are all happily living in Colorado and love the seasons.Best wishes to you all, Alex, Jed et all
