  • I could go on for pages with great Dannemora tales!! I am so proud to have been a native. I still communicate with Bill Donahue, Dorothy McCorry and Barbars Priest Shreder (Attica). Jim Brannigan

  • I was at the dedication of St. Dismas the Good Thief as a youngster. It was a great celebration with Bishop Conroy. I have the key for the old West Hall in the Prison hanging in my den and is dated 1889. I hVE SO many memories of walking the streets in Dannemora. On Friday afternon, Mike Ryan and I delivered the sales specials leaflets for Tolosky's grocery store. We received 50 cents each and that made for a great weekend. Movies at the town hall and a box of popcorn was 25 cents. I stayed many nights in the old wardens house with Billy snyder when his father was warden. The old tennis court, where my sister and i played was flooded in the winter time for a skating rink and all of the town folks crowded it. Our stte home was the second on the right that we moved into in 1931. Bill Donahue lived in the first, John Cain the third, Egans, Empie and Strongs in that order. The next set of coblestone houses on the right were Rev. Edie, Dr. Thume (Before they built him a new home at the top of the hill), Frayers, Mitchells, Bolia and Conboy. On the opposite side coming down were Hogan, Havens, Carter, Murphy and McIlreath. (Best I remember)!! Mary Brennan was my 1st grade teacher and when I went to West Chazy as Principal i succeeded her! second gead, Peg Brennan, Alisa Reed, third gade and she went into the WACS, Grace Galvin-4th, Gert Conboy-5th, Frqances (Toots) Gilbert-6th,Charlie Fitspatrick-7th and Bill Brennan-8th and then i moved to Plattsburgh. Donald Bourey was an altar boy at St. Josephs with me, he was my scout leader and we were in a Minstrel show at the High school together. He was the interlocker and I was a "Black" end man. Don was killed on the shores of Italy in WWII. Just one great guy!!!! Robert Carter (Dot McCorry's older brother) was killed on a motorcycle, Eddie Lamountain fell whie jumping on a freight car and lost his leg, Donald Bolia drowned in silver Lake while hunting with John Adams.
