  • Rookies Big Blue Doubles Tournament of Champions The event was held at the W4th St. handball courts in Greenwich Village. Due to rain 5 teams needed to come back on Sunday 08/18/02. In the semis Pee Wee Castro and Ray Lopez dispensed of "Lefty" Henry Santiago and Eddie Styles (the reigning Citywide Big Blue Doubles Champions) 21-12 while Emmitt Fitzpatrick and Dave Rojas overcame a 7-13 deficit to defeat Ervin Irizarry and Robert Sostre 21-19. Dave and Emmitt came out strong and gained the championship with a 21-11 victory over Castro and Lopez. Fitzpatrick and Rojas split $500 while Castro and Lopez divided $150. Not bad for a day's, correction 2 day's, work.
