  • I love the colorful birds of Australia, particularly these Lorikeets, plus there's a kind of blue wren that Peter has photographed that is super. I'm still in awe of the fact that our two continents have areas so similar as our deserts and drylands; yet all in all, you seem to have more water than we do. I'm delighted Peter sent you on a visit to one of my albums which in turn, sent me exploring yours. My best wishes, Charlotte in Texas & New Mexico

  • Hi, Al; I found your albums through Sharon, who sent me some awsome pictures that you took of the hail in Sydney. I was wandering why I don't see them in Webshots. Are you going to post them? I also love your photos of the sunsets and, well, just about everything! I'm a great fan of Australia and hope to visit some day soon! Ciao, from New York. Carmela.

  • :-) hi Al, ty 4 the kind comments about my album - I didn't delete the second because no addy was evident ?? - u can write to me as txhntr1 - I like this bird album - I spent years in the bird business & in aviculture --- since u ask, for some of these, the names are (US common) -/-/- 'Dove' # 6 of 83 & 'Pigeon' # 42 of 83 = a 'Ringneck Dove' -/-/- 'Dove Again' # 30 of 63 = a 'Diamond Dove' -/-/- 'Rainbow Lorikeet and Finches' # 2 of 83 - the finches = 'Star Finches' -/-/- 'Finches' # 9 of 83 & 'Long Tail Finches' # 37 of 83 = 'Shafttail Finches' (I've heard them called Long Tailed - but not often) -/-/- 'Canary Maybe' #4 of 83 = looks like 'Canary' :-)

  • These birds are amazing! The photos are really wonderful and the Heron. amazing photos. My brother would go crazy seeing these birds in the wild. He has about 150 exotic birds and many like these you have in this album. I can't believe that you can tame these free birds to eat out of your hands. I have to say our birds look pretty boring here in the US compared to yours. Thank you for your nice compliment in my family album and Heron album..How sweet, and kind you are. To answer your question in my home album, about six years, but bought the place almost 9 years ago. TAke care and stay in touch, Laura

  • Your blue laurakeet is actually a blue indian ringneck. I used to raise them. Looks like you also have an albino, latino (yellow) and normal green ringneck. Males will have a ring around neck at maturity.

  • Great photos Al. It is good to see a fellow Aussie promoting our wildlife. It is even better for those who do not have the privelege of living in Australia. Common names eg, pied magpie is normally not close to the mark. I would encourage you to find and use zoological and accepted common names from a book like 'A Field Guide to the Birds of Australia. Author, Graham Pizzey. ISBN 0 00 217282 8. Visitors then get accurately what Australia has to offer, and you educate me also. Keep up the good work, Bob in Bathurst.

  • Hey Al and I meant to tell you we had a Pink Canary fly into our garden the other day. I reckon it had escaped from a cage somewhere but no one came to claim it so we gave it to a neighbour who has a bit of an aviary. Glad you liked the Country Scenes album and thanks for your comments. You have me intrigued about this bone!! Should I be losing any sleep over it? All the best buddy Peter

  • Just got back to view a few of your albums and thoroughly enjoyed the slide show of this one! Your cover shot has to be my favorite with the bright yellow bird against the dark green! But I loved them all -- not something we see here in Arkansas! Good shooting! Jayne

  • Hi, Al, what a beautiful collection of birds mostly native to your continent! They are all unique and beautiful - my favorite, aside from the golden pheasant, are the lorikeets, with whom I have more of a personal contact at the aviary of Busch Gardens, Tampa, Florida. With a little cup of nectar, they will sit on your hand, arm, head - just about anywhere to get a sip of that good stuff. And all of them have such glorious and vivid colors! A great album - congratulations!

  • NOW I know why you wanted to know what the breakfast visiting bird was!! Keith reckons it was a Butcher bird but I 'aint so sure. I'll email the lady of the house where we stayed and see if she knows. (I wouldn't do this for everybody you know!!!) This is a nice album you have building here - if you want to use any of the birds from my various sites be my guest - the blue wrens especially are unique. Hooroo Peter

  • Hi Al.. I am honoured to be the first to look at your new album. Nice collection of Australian Birds and not too obvious that they are in an aviary. Beautiful shot of the Regent Parrot #1 (the male has yellow chest and female is more greenish). The Rosella is an Eastern States Bird, but they are very colourful, also the Lorikeets. A Google Image Search is a quick way to check names and spellings if you are unsure, otherwise, you should be able to get a Bird Book from the Library.. Thanks for sharing.. Gladys, Western Australia.
