A huge (Underline and Caps "huge") the lady was a cousin, not an Aunt. Her name is Mary Helen Burke. My wife was a Navy Nurse.

As an ex-civilian pilot who learned to fly through the CPT program in 1940 (but got sidetracked by the U.S. Marine Corps (ground) in early 1941)I was impressed to learn that my bride (in the late 40s) had an Aunt who flew with the WASP. The advent of computers has enabled me to learn more about this fantastic group.

As a 10 year old son of Betty "Whit" Whitlow Smith of Tulsa, OK, I'd read in bed by flashlight a dusty jacketed B&W hardbound book of WWII fighter planes and dream. Little did I know at that time my Mother flew some of those very planes (P-40, P-47, P-51, etc.)! Now I absolutely wonder at her courage and that of the WASPs during their voluntary service. Way to go Mom! How proud can a son be? Terribly!!
