Album Description:
Dogs that did not get out of the shelter. When Photopoint went down, some of my earlier photos went with it - I started again here. This is my memorial to the animals that are overlooked and die because there is no place for them and no one wants them.

Thank you for posting these pictures. The community needs to know about this. As a Veterinary Assistant Student I'm learning about how many animals lifes could be saved if we all just take action and protect our dogs and cats by getting them spayed and neutered. There are many many pets like these that end up homeless. I myself have taken in a cute and cuddley Shih Tzu that hates to be groomed because he was abused as a very young puppy and has been passed home to home. No one wants him because he bites. But now he is calming down and has become one of our family. We have 2 other Shih Tzu's and 1 Lasha Opso. Again, thanks for sharing.

This album really touched my heart. So often it is easy to ignore what we don't see. Thank you for putting these dear sweet souls pictures up for us all to see. Animal lover.

I am so heartbroken. What can we do to save all of the poor animals with no where to go? It is such a waste that they had to die. I cannot even bear to look at these photos anymore.

I can see that you , like me have a heart for animals, especially dogs. After seeing your albums I feel so very, very sad..... I wish I could help all of them.... and I cried many times inwardly whenever i see a stray on the road, and knowing their what their fate would be like.....

I live in New Zealand and, unfortunately, we have the same problem with unwanted dogs and cats, mostly because people won't have them neutered or spayed. Also, because some cruel people move house and leave their pet behind. Then there are those delightful people with the attitude that cats can look after themselves. I often feel that cats and dogs don't deserve people - they deserve something better! Just when you feel that humans are the lowest life form on the planet, however, you hear a story of some dear soul who spends all her old age pension on feeding stray cats. I have four young cats who were part of a litter of 5, born under our house. We believe their pregnant mother was abandoned. She arrived at our place when she was almost ready to have her kits. We found good homes for her, and one of her kittens, but found we couldn't part with the other four! They get on pretty well with our older cat and very well with our dog. I firmly believe that humans who are capable of cruelty to animals are just as capable of cruelty to other humans. Apparently many sadistic murderers and rapists began their careers by tormenting animals. Some people who abandon animals just seem to lack sufficient imagination to understand how confused, frightened and bewildered that animal must feel. We need to begin with the children, teaching them the joys and responsibilities of life with our wonderful animals.

I can see that this animal shelter has a HUGE volume of dogs & cats coming in on a daily basis. How sad! Unfortunately, there are so many ignorant people who do not spay or neuter their pets. There are also many who treat a pet as if it were something that could be discarded at any given moment. In the words of Albert Einstein, "until we respect all life we are still just savages". P.S.: I noticed that the shelter considers Pit Bulls unadoptable. This is not always true. While some Pit Bulls are cruelly trained to be agressive it is not really their nature. My neighbor owns two and they slobber every man, woman and child they meet with endless doggie kisses.

If a society is judged by the way they treat their prisoners, then I guess were not much of a society.

One of the dogs on your page could be the sister of a dog my son and I rescued from the streets. I hate the fact that beautiful animals die each day because there's no one to care for them. Thank you for this tribute and reminder. A great man once said, "Whatever you do to them, the least of these, you do to me."

we live out in the country and a month does not go by where we find animals let off-or tied to a tree and left to die i think we should do the same to these people

I really appreciate seeing your gone but not forgotten pictures. It's very sad but a fitting memorial to those poor dogs who died just because THERE WERE TOO MANY. I hope people who don't spay/neuter their pets and those who just dump them when they are tired of them realize that so many don't make it and take a good look at these sweet faces who deserved so much more. Having faces to see makes it so much more real and personal.

This breaks my heart. I am a volunteer a a local animal shelter. The work is the most rewarding thing I've done. The staff and the animal appreciate our time and effort. I have answered phones, cleaned kennels, donated toys, towels, treats, various supplies, helped with fund raisers and mobile adoptions, walked dogs, washed laundry. I have had to talk with irresponsibe pet owners, want to dump their animals these people are unbelievable!!!! I have talked to some that have no choice but to surrender their pets it's heart wrenching we are their last option. But a shelter is better then the animal left to fend for itself. Some of the animals by the time they brought to the shelter are so sick it my never make it up for adoption. Help your local animal shelter. Spay and neuter your pets!! Think before you buy they are a life time commitment!!! DO NOT SUPPORT YOUR BACK YARD BREADERS AND PUPPY MILLS!!!!!!

I am 27 years old and have had nothing but stray or shelter dogs my entire life. Every one of them was the best dog anyone could hope for and I know that they were thankful for having been giving another chance in life. If you have ever considered adopting a dog or cat from a shelter, do it today. Make sure it is the right dog for you, but don't hesitate too long. The animal you save will know you have saved it and you will see its gratitude in its eyes every day. and PLEASE encourage your friends to spay/neuter their animals to reduce the need for all this killing of God's innocent creatures.

I have rescued 50 large breed dogs in the last 3 years and have found homes for all of them.Unfortunately , we cannot save all of them but we are gonna keep trying. I only wish Breeders would be more responsible and watch whom they sell their pups to. Large Breed dogs (Rotties, Dobes, Shepherds) are truly unique dogs with personalities that most people cannot comprehend because of their size. Please go to your local shelters and don't just walk past them just because they are barking at you,try bringing one out of the cage and spending time with it and you may just find the greatest dog in the world to cherish forever.

Your pictures bring tears every time I look at them. As a person who has worked in rescue in Canada, I feel such frustration with the stupidity and inhumanity of humans in their behaviour with these animals. Your gallery is extremely well done and perhaps it will save an animal or, better yet, prevent one from being born. Every soul should be wanted and loved, never thrown away like this.

Of the two dogs and two cats I own, three are "throw aways". We kill (not put asleep) 60 million dogs and cats a year in this country. Animals have rights too. No animal should have to be "thrown away". There I go off on a tangent again. What a wonderful memorial. It's nice to know there's another kindred spirit out there that realizes all life is precious. I'm sure those animals are in "heaven" ; sooner then many of the two legged ones.

EVERY PTS animal should have a memorial - People need to know that NOT spaying or buying irresponsibly costs lives. Pets are NOT shoes you can throw away when you are tired of them. Thank you SO much for what you do. I am thinking LA might need to do this...though the good thing is LA just came up with a free Spaymobile and tougher licensing laws. It is still a DROP in the bucket though and makes me teary-eyed.

Your memorial page is outstanding. There really are no words. You should consider having poster made of these sweet animals with a caption under each picture, INCLUDING their PTS dates....just as you have them on the site. Would the shelter let you put them up? (Maybe have to add something that doesn't make the shelter look like the "bad guys". Anyway, you did a great job.....very poignant. Gail

I was taken by surprise to see this section. As sad as it is to see the realities of overpopulation (it is much easier to deny if there are no photos as otherwise this goes unnoticed). I think these dogs deserve to be acknowledged and I think it is important that you created this section. This is also educational.
