Album Description:

Dogs that did not get out of the shelter. When Photopoint went down, some of my earlier photos went with it - I started again here. This is my memorial to the animals that are overlooked and die because there is no place for them and no one wants them.

  • these lyrics are to the Garth Brooks song The Change and I love this song. it fits for those of us who are the voice of animals and who are trying to change things and make a difference One hand reaches out And pulls a lost soul from harm While a thousand more go unspoken for And they say what good have you done By saving just this one? It's like whispering a prayer in the fury of a storm And I hear them saying You'll never change things And no matter what you do it's still the same thing But it's not the world that I am changing I do this so this world will know That it will not change me This heart still believes That love and mercy still exist While all the hatreds rage And so many say That love is all but pointless In madness such as this It's like trying to stop a fire With the moisture from a kiss And I hear them saying You'll never change things And no matter what you do it's still the same thing But it's not the world that I am changing I do this so this world will know That it will not change me As long as one heart still holds on Then hope is never really gone And I hear them saying You'll never change things And no matter what you do it's still the same thing But it's not the world that I am changing I do this so this world we know Never changes me What I do is so This world will know That it will not change me Angela

  • You are so wonderful to be doing this. I share your albums with everyone I know and even don;t know (on myspace) to try and stress the importance of Spay/neuter and of adopting or rescuing their next dog. Its amazing as someone said above about the 60 million every year, it breaks down I once heard someone say to like 1 animal every 3.4 seconds. Its unimaginable. And your pages put it right in people's faces. Unfortunately its animals lovers like us that look at the pages and not enough of the people who disregard the very lives we are trying to save. Wouldn't it be poetic justice for someone who took a dog to that shelter to be glancing through and see that their own dog they threw away didn't make it. I have been a advocate of S/N for several years now and also am involved in AMBOR and UKC trying to convince people to adopt and register with these organizations and get involved in sports with their rescues. these organizations make it possible for people to compete in obedience, agility and many other dog sports with mixes and purebred rescues with no papers. your an Angel for these dogs Sylvia, and you should feel proud for all you have done. One person cannot change the world but she/he can change the world for one dog or cat, and that is a step in the right direction.

  • I was glued to your album...made me cry; very thought provoking and extremely moving. What a respectful thing to do for them. Perhaps their lives will not be in vain if only just one person sees your album and takes a trip to the shelter.

  • My apologies for not being able to get past the first pics of these "gone but not forgotten" albums. I have pets of my own and I am a volunteer with my local animal shelter. I just HAD to sign your guest book and tell you that I am so proud you have created the "gone but not forgotten" albums. This way, it is just as the album title states....they may be gone, but they are NOT forgotten:) God Bless you!

  • It's sad to think that many of the animals at shelters never even get the chance to be saved. I know not every animal can be adopted but to hear that at times there isn't even an effort made to save the poor creature's life is heartbreaking. I'm glad you created this page, however sad it was to look at. This issue is important and more people need to be aware so they can help.

  • So sad! I rescue strays, mostly cats. I just started getting some pics up on Webshots of them. Luckily all of mine have found homes, but one. She went to a no kill shelter after it was obvious that she needed more exposure. We need more no kill shelters out there and more responsible pet owners.

  • Wouldn't it be nice if every damn network in america would plaster these photos somewhere in every one of their newscasts. It personally sickens me to think there are SO many irresponsible people in the world who just let their pets breed time after time. I, myself have had every one of my pets adopted from pounds or shelters. I can't even look into their the faces of these poor lost souls without weeping uncontrolably. Please, please, anyone seeing these photos forward them on to someone who needs to get a clue.... All gods creatures are a precious gift to us (mere mortals) that we should not abuse and throw out like our trash. I only hope that (if there is indeed a heaven) that when the select few of us get there, that our beloved pets are waiting for us..... cause if there not...I'm not goin!

  • I love animals so much I have 5 dogs and 3 cats and if I were rich I would have a farm like I grew up on and adopt every animal in animal shelters and hire people to help me care for them and they would not be in cages with wire floors they would have a bed like humans do and have a big yard to run in and cats would have the bigest barn to run in and have fun. It hurts me to see the tormet animals go through at the hands of owners who should not be allowed to have animals. I cry at every picture see and want to save them from the pain of being rejected but God has them now and he is taking better care of them and we will see them when it is our turn to see Jesus and we then can enjoy them. • It's sooo sad. I cry for one hour now.. I just don't know what to say. My dog is taken from a shelter and abandoned once again by the people who "saved" him. I hope I'll have soon a house with a garden to be able to take more. This year I saw the new "wave" of dogs and cats abandoned during the summer. People go to vacations and leave their animals. It's disgusting. Thanks for documenting this crime against the nature. I'll show the link to everyone I know. Hope this will help. I also hope laws will be voted to punish theese irresponsible humans (are they humans?).

  • All those dogs gone. Hard to believe. Each and everyone one of them was adorable, loving and cute. I don't understand when you say mix breeds have no chance. NO one comes for them? Are people really expecting to adopt pure breeds from a shelter. Yes, maybe sometime but most people, I think, are looking for a cross when they go to a shelter. I don't know what city you are in but I was under the impression that pound dogs or Society dogs are all mostly mixed breeds and that is why people come to these wonderful places to find these kinds of dogs. That is what it is all about in my city. It broke my heart to think all those amazing dogs could not find a home. In our SPCA's here most of the dogs are rottie/pit bull crosses that need a special family to take them in. Your dogs just looked so sweet and adoptable. I will never understand why they all had to die. They looked like such good pet choices. Where were all the people??

  • May God bless everyone who tries to help these poor creatures as well as those who are reading this. Each of you loves animals. I am appalled by the careless actions of my fellow humans and have made it a point in my life to advocate spaying/neutoring. I urge you to do the same. I am the proud mama of a stray cat and shelter puppy. 6 years ago, my cat ran into my home when I opened the apartment door one evening. She had a collar on but no one claimed her. The vet said she was already (barely) pregnant when he spayed her. She was just a kitten herself, left behind when a family moved. My puppy was one of 9 puppies born inside of the Animal Shelter to mama-dog Mary. Mary had been running wild and having puppies for at least 4 years (2 litters per year * 9 puppies per litter * 4 years = 72 puppies) All of those puppies were born and are now running wild in the streets having their own puppies. Even just one dog who is not fixed can cause the problems that we are seeing at the Animal shelters. My puppy (now 13 weeks old) was fixed and so were her siblings & Mary before leaving the shelter. Thus breaking the cycle.

  • Thank you for making the public aware of all these sweet angels. I have tears in my eyes as I write this because there seems to be no end to this insanity of killing unwanted animals. It is all the fault of non-caring & calous "human" beings who throw these precious lives away like they were trash. This, I will never understand. Spaying & neutering & informing the public are the only answers....but even that seems futile. The only comfort is knowing that God has a place for these sweet souls where they will never again be abused or forgotten & will finally know love. Thank you for touching my heart. God Bless.

  • Thank you for posting these pictures. The community needs to know about this. As a Veterinary Assistant Student I'm learning about how many animals lifes could be saved if we all just take action and protect our dogs and cats by getting them spayed and neutered. There are many many pets like these that end up homeless. I myself have taken in a cute and cuddley Shih Tzu that hates to be groomed because he was abused as a very young puppy and has been passed home to home. No one wants him because he bites. But now he is calming down and has become one of our family. We have 2 other Shih Tzu's and 1 Lasha Opso. Again, thanks for sharing.

  • I live in New Zealand and, unfortunately, we have the same problem with unwanted dogs and cats, mostly because people won't have them neutered or spayed. Also, because some cruel people move house and leave their pet behind. Then there are those delightful people with the attitude that cats can look after themselves. I often feel that cats and dogs don't deserve people - they deserve something better! Just when you feel that humans are the lowest life form on the planet, however, you hear a story of some dear soul who spends all her old age pension on feeding stray cats. I have four young cats who were part of a litter of 5, born under our house. We believe their pregnant mother was abandoned. She arrived at our place when she was almost ready to have her kits. We found good homes for her, and one of her kittens, but found we couldn't part with the other four! They get on pretty well with our older cat and very well with our dog. I firmly believe that humans who are capable of cruelty to animals are just as capable of cruelty to other humans. Apparently many sadistic murderers and rapists began their careers by tormenting animals. Some people who abandon animals just seem to lack sufficient imagination to understand how confused, frightened and bewildered that animal must feel. We need to begin with the children, teaching them the joys and responsibilities of life with our wonderful animals.

  • I can see that this animal shelter has a HUGE volume of dogs & cats coming in on a daily basis. How sad! Unfortunately, there are so many ignorant people who do not spay or neuter their pets. There are also many who treat a pet as if it were something that could be discarded at any given moment. In the words of Albert Einstein, "until we respect all life we are still just savages". P.S.: I noticed that the shelter considers Pit Bulls unadoptable. This is not always true. While some Pit Bulls are cruelly trained to be agressive it is not really their nature. My neighbor owns two and they slobber every man, woman and child they meet with endless doggie kisses.

I hope people who don't spay/neuter their pets and those who just dump them when they are tired of them realize that so many don't make it and take a good look at these sweet faces who deserved so much more. Having faces to see makes it so much more real and personal.

  • This breaks my heart. I am a volunteer a a local animal shelter. The work is the most rewarding thing I've done. The staff and the animal appreciate our time and effort. I have answered phones, cleaned kennels, donated toys, towels, treats, various supplies, helped with fund raisers and mobile adoptions, walked dogs, washed laundry. I have had to talk with irresponsibe pet owners, want to dump their animals these people are unbelievable!!!! I have talked to some that have no choice but to surrender their pets it's heart wrenching we are their last option. But a shelter is better then the animal left to fend for itself. Some of the animals by the time they brought to the shelter are so sick it my never make it up for adoption. Help your local animal shelter. Spay and neuter your pets!! Think before you buy they are a life time commitment!!! DO NOT SUPPORT YOUR BACK YARD BREADERS AND PUPPY MILLS!!!!!!

  • I am 27 years old and have had nothing but stray or shelter dogs my entire life. Every one of them was the best dog anyone could hope for and I know that they were thankful for having been giving another chance in life. If you have ever considered adopting a dog or cat from a shelter, do it today. Make sure it is the right dog for you, but don't hesitate too long. The animal you save will know you have saved it and you will see its gratitude in its eyes every day. and PLEASE encourage your friends to spay/neuter their animals to reduce the need for all this killing of God's innocent creatures.

  • I have rescued 50 large breed dogs in the last 3 years and have found homes for all of them.Unfortunately , we cannot save all of them but we are gonna keep trying. I only wish Breeders would be more responsible and watch whom they sell their pups to. Large Breed dogs (Rotties, Dobes, Shepherds) are truly unique dogs with personalities that most people cannot comprehend because of their size. Please go to your local shelters and don't just walk past them just because they are barking at you,try bringing one out of the cage and spending time with it and you may just find the greatest dog in the world to cherish forever.

  • Your pictures bring tears every time I look at them. As a person who has worked in rescue in Canada, I feel such frustration with the stupidity and inhumanity of humans in their behaviour with these animals. Your gallery is extremely well done and perhaps it will save an animal or, better yet, prevent one from being born. Every soul should be wanted and loved, never thrown away like this.

  • Of the two dogs and two cats I own, three are "throw aways". We kill (not put asleep) 60 million dogs and cats a year in this country. Animals have rights too. No animal should have to be "thrown away". There I go off on a tangent again. What a wonderful memorial. It's nice to know there's another kindred spirit out there that realizes all life is precious. I'm sure those animals are in "heaven&quot ; sooner then many of the two legged ones.

  • EVERY PTS animal should have a memorial - People need to know that NOT spaying or buying irresponsibly costs lives. Pets are NOT shoes you can throw away when you are tired of them. Thank you SO much for what you do. I am thinking LA might need to do this...though the good thing is LA just came up with a free Spaymobile and tougher licensing laws. It is still a DROP in the bucket though and makes me teary-eyed.

You should consider having poster made of these sweet animals with a caption under each picture, INCLUDING their PTS dates....just as you have them on the site. Would the shelter let you put them up? (Maybe have to add something that doesn't make the shelter look like the "bad guys". Anyway, you did a great job.....very poignant. Gail

I think these dogs deserve to be acknowledged and I think it is important that you created this section. This is also educational.
