Hello Anna; this album is just out of this world. I love your macros and how you compose your pictures. I saved many to my desktop and I have to tell you that every one of them is crystal clear and oh so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful and outstanding album. I am very tempted to say that your shots of the dahlias might look better than the originals, but then....horticulturists nowadays have been struck by a delirium of creation and they make unheard of and unseen until now flowers that leave even Mother Nature wondering!!! Anna, your flower photos never fail to amaze me, I am delighted that you share them with us. This latest group, the dahlias, puts me to mind of a beautiful book I have called "100 Flowers". The photographer has presented 100 large format, full page photos of a single flower or stem with flower on a black background, so every detail of the flower pops out at you. Oh, by the way, since my PC crashed on 8 March -- it does NOT respond in any way to my Nikon or Sony. And yes, I've READ my manual, which says almost nothing other than the camera setting being set to MAX, then refers to the disk that came with it, (I have reloaded the yellow disk)so now I'll read the the info disk to see if it has anymore info...this is just crushing as I view ALL my fotos on the PC.Pretty sure now that my Hard Drive needs to be re-formatted or replaced. :( Barb

Hallo Anna, (in your language is American for 'hello'--'hallo?' Do you speak the same language as Louke103(Mary-lou/Belgium ? Well, besides that, I revisit the Dahlia album often as I am in love with it. This time around my favourite dwnloads were: #11,the off-white done excellently.#13,yellow macro!!,#25,variety of sprite and bright colours. And #37, the partial sideways lavender. My goodness these can brighten a desktop, sure wish I could order a mouse pad or set of mugs with these four fotos. BTW: as far as #46, now I will never find which one it is as per yours and another's advice I deleted several fotos from the album!! Do you at least remember if it was a tree (pine)& water foto or if it was a duck? hahahahahah. As I see others say, Groetjes or Goreten? difference? Barb/Chicago PS: you are NOT old.

Hi Anna! The Dahlia album is just delightful. I had visited this earlier and it reminded me of my Dad's hard work every year when he used to grow these. He has long been passed away, but we still enjoy those memories. Thanks for visiting my Missouri Botanical Garden Spring album. In answer to your question, the Garden is open every day of the year, except Christmas I think. We have been members of the Garden for several years and live about 45 minutes away from it, but we try to visit several times during each season of the year. The flower themes are planted differently each year and lots of things are the same, but always just a little different because of the weather in St. Louis--never the same time in blooming each season. They have a saying around here that if one doesn't like the weather one day, just wait until the next day! :-)) We're taking Bob's sister and her husband to Missouri Botanical Gardens today; they haven't been here during the springtime blooming season and right now the dogwoods are putting on a gorgeous display out by the Japanese Garden. Hello Anna, thankyou for your kind comment on my featured treescape album yesterday. I am drawn to this dahlia album as my father grew them commercially & I still grow a few. They are a much underated flower but perhaps are due a return to fashion as with our recent milder winters I have taken to leaving mine in the ground with no ill effects. Hallo Anna, fantastisch wat een mooie foto’s van deze prachtige bloemen. De bloem zelf nodigt ook echt uit tot het maken van prachtige macro opnames. En dat heb je dan ook ten volle uitgebuit. Ondanks dat ik ze allemaal erg mooi vind, heb ik toch nog een paar foto’s waaraan ik de voorkeur geef door de manier waarop je ze in de picture hebt gezet, gebruikmakend van kleur en vorm van de bloem (#11, 17, 18, 32, 35, en 39). Ik heb ook nog een vraag aan jou: een hele tijd terug heb je eens in iemands guestbook een tip gegeven van een site over verwijdering van digitale ruis m.b.t. het merk van fototoestellen. Als je nog weet om welke site het gaat, zou je die aan mij willen doorgeven? Ik kom al een heel eind via PSP9, maar dat programma maakt gebruik van voorinstellingen van maar een paar merken en daar zit niet mijn toestel bij. Ben benieuwd wat het doet als het op het eigen toestel is afgestemd. Overigens sorry, dat ik nu pas reageer op je uitnodiging om dit album te bekijken, maar ik was het echt niet vergeten. I'm still using a 2M and want to upgrade in time to photograph the spring blooms in the nearby gardens. Of the cameras you mention, which would you recommend? Note that I'm an amateur - I shot the blue iris with the distance lens and optic zoom instead of using the macros lens. Oops! lol. Hurricane Frances did a lot of damage in my area, but I fared very well, with mainly downed and broken trees and shrubs. It was certainly quite an experience. We lost power for over a week, some people are still without it.

Beautiful images Ann. you got some really nice light and detail. The compositions are nice too because you dont always have to fit the WHOLE dahlia in the pic :) I just bought the Nikon D70 3 weeks ago and am still getting used to the DSLR change over. ANNA! After your Keukenhof album you wrote me that you might disappoint people in the future.... certainly not!! You keep doing magic with your camera. Hi Anna!! WOOOOOOWW!! What an album!I was bowled over!! Dahlias in our part of the world are the pride of every flower lover. In fact no garden is complete without them in Spring. I love to grow them from seed and cuttings year after year. Unlike other flowers grown from bulbs which produce a single flower, Dahlias bloom for over two months and produce blooms by the dozens!! The Dinner Plate variety at times grows to sizes of 16 inches across!! Just have a look at them in two of my albums. You'll love them too. Hi Anna! You were fortunate to have the opportunity to visit such a wonderful Dahlia Show and to photograph them in their many shapes and colours. Dahlias have not "gone out of fashion", however they are "out of season" here at present -- the first leaves of mine are just coming through the ground and I am looking forward to their cheery faces in summer. Je moet bij jou gelijk in de rij staan... Alleen al de thumbnails, wat een kleurenpracht, op zijn minst tonen die de kwaliteit van de chip in je camera... Dahlia's zijn natuurlijk lang 'ouderwets' geweest maar een echte plantenliefhebber als ik is nooit van hun zijde geweken, al heb ik er momenteel geen in de tuin. Maar een flinke bos fraai bloeiende dahlia's blijft een prachtig gezicht, ondanks de oorwurmen! En wat je foto's betreft: je hebt er enkele zeer fraaie bij, met name die welke niet plompverloren van bovenop zijn gemaakt; ook de foto's van intieme details zijn prachtig.

My mom used to grow them back east--every spring we used to have to get them out of their cool, dry place and plant them back in the ground. it seemed like so much work --but oh, was it ever worth it.!! These are great - :) such colours - think I fell for the purple and white :) haven't seen a dahlia that colour before - I love to grow them - used to have some wonderful bulbs my friend in Holland sent but lost them during a very wet winter ( I didn't lift the bulbs when I should have ) - thanks for sharing these beauties with us :)

He was a market gardener and we grew them for the flower trade, and you are right about the earwigs!!. We used to put an upturned plant pot on the canes that supported them so the earwigs didnt climb up the inside of the cane and infest the plant. Regards MaggieB0

Hoi Anna, Het is al laat en met mijn poes achter mijn rug wil ik je even bedanken voor dit prachtige album. Dahlia's doen mij denken aan mijn jeugd. Nou, dahlia's kunnen nog, dat is wel duidelijk. Overigens, dat is voor mij ook een verrassing, want dahlia's hebben bij mij een de naam saai te zijn. Om die reden ook fotografeer ik zelden een dahlia. Dit album toont echter overduidelijk aan dat dahlia's niet alleen maar saai zijn en dat ze ware schoonheden kunnen zijn. Ik ben alleen "bang" dat dit erg veel te maken heeft met jouw manier van fotograferen. Kortom, prachtige fotografie: prachtige kleuren, prachtige en minder alledaagse uitsnedes. Ik ben het eens met mijn voorgangster wat betreft de kwalitiet van dit album ten opzichte van vele andere bloemenalbums op webshots.

WOW, WOW, WOW !!! Je hebt jezelf weer eens overtroffen. Ze zijn spectaculair en origineel, heel goede uitsnedes en prachtige kleuren. En ik maar denken dat alle dahlia's rood zijn :-). Hallo Anna. Je hebt gelijk, Dahlia's konden niet meer. Uit mijn jeugd herinner ik me vooral de oorwurmen, die er altijd inzaten. Je bent er in ieder geval in geslaagd, me er weer met heel andere ogen naar te laten kijken, waarbij nummer 21 een absolute favoriet voor me is. Misschien kunnen ze toch wel weer een beetje (althans voor mij). Het is weer een fantastisch album geworden.
