I am happy to see i am not alone feeling that love for the country where my parents grew up (Mezirich near Rovno).thank you for expressing what i feel.So much beauty in the country my parets left on 1927.I stll wonder :that's the place where most of my family were killed for being Jews and put to mass graves in beautiful places (Nevirkov near Mezirich),and still i have warm feeling to those green wet villages visited twice and feel close.Your photoes are much beautiful than mine and i thank you for being able to express my feeling in your photoes .Here in Israel most people see Ukraine as the place our parents hardly succeeded to leave and those who didnt we cry and morn for.But still i found this place (the villages )close to my heart. thanks, Judith

It's a wonderful book with wonderful pictures of a world too-often forgotten and yet, with these pictures, well remembered. It is reminiscent of the Midwest in the early 1920's. And pictures, unlike words, conveys the story of life with a seldom encountered honesty. Thank you.

Congratulations on this featured album! I just marveled at the wonderful people you have captured on film. They have such character and strength to live that type of life. We complain when our cell phone stops working or our electricity goes out for a hour. I live on a farm, raise sheep, have a well and septic, with electricity, thank goodness. I was raised this way and after years of living in the city have returned to the life I love. You can see these people love their lives and their way of life. Thank you so much for sharing this album with us. Lynn, Bonanza, Oregon

I loved your photographs and the narration that went went them. So many times the narrations are left out and viewers are left wondering. Your album is a wonderful visit to a place most of us will never have the chance to visit. Your photographs captured the essence of their lives and the village. For some reason they reminded me of my German grandmother's farm - including pumping water and visiting the outhouse. What I wouldn't give to have some photos from those bygone days. For my it is a beautiful news article of the Ukraine that remembers to me the time of my childhood, when the life in the field was the unique thing which we had to live. This album invites me to the tenderness and the affection, the friendship and the brotherhood of the men. Their images are a wonderful document of the universality of the human. I am sure that many people are themselves reflected in this album. And they will enjoy him. I send you my congratulation by his featured today in Webshots. You deserved this honor. I have some photos of the camp to share when I can get to it. The only thing negative I heard from the kids about it was that it wasn't long enough. Thanks for helping. What a wonderful album! I have had a great time viewing all the photos in full screen mode and they are so full of interest. At least two photos stand out, for me anyway. #18 Shepherds and cows and #32 Boys at play. This is a superb group photo that I would have been proud to have taken when I was doing things like that for a living. Did you pose them yourself or was it all completely impromptu? I, too, am sure I have seen this album before, and quite recently too. Anyway, warmest congratulations on the feature (again!!) Peter in Western Australia

Your pictures have brought back many wonderful memories of a trip that my mother, of blessed memory, took my sister and me on. It was in the '70's when the Soviet Union ruled Ukraine and our itinerary was defined by Intourist. Still we managed to sneak out to visit my father's village near Kolomyia. Mom's family were from Horodenka but we didn't get to go there. It appears that Kozova is about 100 km from these villages (sela). Your pictures of the tapestries, the icons with their embroidered cloths (rushnyky), the large pillows with embroidered slips, the somewhat primitive kitchens etc. are very familiar. (I have an icon corner which looks somewhat the same.) The very best varenyky (pyrohy/pyrogy) I have ever eaten (which include my mother's delicious versions) were served to us in the home of a cousin in my father's village. They were made with fresh cherries. Indeed, Ukrainians love to entertain in the best manner they know how. Thank you for your wonderful pictures and the opportunity to look back in time. How lucky you are to share your experiences with your beautiful daughter Kalyna. I would love to create such memories with my children. Still, we can do so by sharing your pictures. Cheers! from Chris in Halifax, NS, Canada

What a rare treat! What lovely, friendly people the Ukranians are! What a heritage for your children,too. This would make a delightful magazine story or documentary. Thank you so much for sharing it with us--

I've just finished looking at your Ukraine and the Revisited albums. Excellent job! You have managed to show not only the beauty of Ukraine, but also the "essence&quo t; of the country and its people. It takes a special gift to make a photo of "muddy road" look picturesque, I agree. Furthermore, like you, I also have "andybandi&q uot; listed as one of my "favorites.& quot;

Beautiful people and beautiful places. You have made the muddy road look as picturesque as the gilded church. Seeing the smiles of the widows and widowers and children in a comparatively harsh society makes me extremely grateful for them and their hard work and for my lazy lifestyle of peace and prosperity. It was a wonderful visit that you took me on. Kaki

Love this album. Love it, Love it, Love it. Your naration adds so much to each and every photo. The picture of the men on chatting with their bikes is wonderful, as is the shepherd women....they all are wonderful. Those children are truly gorgeous. How fortunate you are to have family in other parts of the world to visit and chat with. Please, keep snapping away...Anxious to see more albums and wonderful writing. Lorrie/Wyoming

What wonderful photos of the Ukraine. As a grandchild of Lithuanian immigrants (to the US), these lovely photos remind me so much of my grandparents and how they lived, even when they moved to the US. Beautiful!!

Hello! Thank you for your wonderful photos of my home country, the Ukraine! This village reminded me of my own in Nikolaev's region. I love your documentary style, it's great that you've got to visit Ukraine, it's a wonderful country!

Extraordinary album!!! My friend, Ina, sent me an invitation and I am very glad that I came to see the slideshow! A fantastic gallery of portraits! An interesting narration! AND.... many nostalgic reminders of my childhood vacations in the countryside. I believe that photos No.16(Cows going to pasture on a misty morning); No.64 (Cutting hay at sunrise); No.66(Walking into the sunrise), could easily be taken as oil paintings. Remarkable!My compliments for such good creations! Greetings from Japan, Gabriela

Thank you Vera, for leaving a message on my guestbook inviting me to look at your beautiful pictures. They certainly show a very different Ukraine to Kiev, one I didn't have a chance to see on my short visit. I've replied to your comments on my guestbook. Stephen

Indeed, there is great similarity to our photographs, as well as, apparently similarity to the lives of the Ukranians and the Romanians. Not so big a surprise as they are but a border apart for much of the country. The wagon shape and the similarity of daily survival in the villages particularly. I applaud your wonderful images, and have many questions to ask. Please contact me at shellyr@gmail.com so that we might have a more detailed conversation. Wonderful work. Thank you for sharing it. And for making first contact. Shelly.

Vera, These photos are superb! I loved reading the story about each one - really makes your album really special. Thanks for your note - I am posting more of my photos of Poland in 1976, but you are correct, Poland is better off than Ukraine. Beautiful people in both countries! Nancy
