I am enjoying this website very much. My brother and I were AF brats with great travels and especially fond memories of Loring. We went to Damon Elem and Limestone HS from 1960-1964.We picked lots of potatoes and love the snow. It was a special place. Becky & Joe Lawrence (creativecollecti@cableon e.net)

Im ernie coleman, Yes back in the day pictures. Born on Loring 1961 came back 1974 parents retired in limestone till today. My dad Herman Gaskins (CE) helped build carter's lake, malabeam lake. It's funny how all of kids did the same thing over the years. Jumping beaver's creek, sliding down devil's hill. I lived in the getto 683 sherman ct. lol. That path was cool during the day. But at night it became (The dark Road). it was great when a car came up or down the road so you could run some while you had light.lol Many memories every time i go home i drive through the base just to remember. Thanks for the pictures. ernie sister belinda coleman, brother (binky gaskins.ejcj32@aol.com

Great pictures and comments that bring back great childhood memories. I lived at Loring from about 1964-1969. In I think that Ryan1955, who made a comment earlier was my next door neighbor! My brother and I hung out with his brother David. jlcahill2@msn.com

I love finding pictures of Loring. I lived there from 85-94 @ 442 Hickam Dr. We built forts in the woods and snow forts you could stand up in, so many memories of that place, the bike path up the hill and then through the woods to Damon, cross country skiing with Mr. McDonald. Great place to grow up, hope to visit it some day even if there is not much left.

Thank you so much for the pictures. I lived at Loring from 82-84. It's neat to find out that folks long before me were taking that path to school! I lived in Brunswick, ME from 2001-05 and unfortunately didn't get to make it up to Limestone to see the old base. I lived at 103 Hickam.

I was a Air Force Brat and went to Damon in 1966 to 1969. I lived on Loring Drive and delivered the Bangor Daily News. I lived at the top of what was called "Devil's Hill". I loved living at Loring whith such great memories. I had the notorious Mr. Shorey in 5th grade. I swam at the indoor pool and enjoyed the many berries and hazel nuts that I found. I remember Carter Lake and the leeches. Those were the days. Ryan L. Proctor (Thunderbolt77@go.com)

Hi! I'm too another Air Force brat whose family was stationed at Loring AFB, Maine. We moved from Yokota Air Base, Japan to Loring AFB when my father got promoted to Master Sergeant. Our address was 490 Hickam Drive. My family and I used to live there from early 1979 to mid 1985. Your photos of the foot path to Damon Elementary School brought back some fun memories. I used to walk that very path every day to school with my friends and with my two sisters; rain or shine, except for winter – we took the bus. In late 1984, I had a newspaper route up and down on Hickam Drive. Those were the fun years as an early teenage kid. Thanks for the memories.

Another brat living on Hickam from 64~67. Walked the streets, cut through the woods, down the path, and jumped Beaver Dam to get to Damon. Picked strawberries and learned to swim at the base pool. Amazed to find others who think of Loring as a treasure.

We found your Loring pictures searching for info on Loring. Ironically, we are staying at the Caribou Inn and visited a lot of the places depicted in your photos just today. We also lived on Hickman drive in the mid sixities, I believe the address was 190 Hickman. Please email me if you can or post more pictures if you have them.

Hi! I'm another Air Force brat whose family was stationed at Loring. I've always remembered Beaver dam and the running jump we used to have to take to get across it just to get to school. Damon Demons! We lived on Harmon Ct. My dad retired at Patrick AFB in Florida and we're still here. What a difference. I miss Loring; our baby sister was born there. She was only a few months old when my dad had to go to Viet Nam (1965) and we all left then to go to New Mexico where my mother is from. Does anybody remember Alaska Jane? Anyway, the pictures are great. I remember trying to get out to the car in just that same way. Thanks for the memories! Dolores (Moad) Gonzalez mgonza05@harris.com

I was stationed at Loring AFB in 1975-1976 with my husband and your pics are amazing they really brought back some memories. My daugherts do no have many pics of the base, because we had a house fire in 1990 and this will excite them to see how it looked and what they remember. We lived on the post at Whyoming CR. My husband was a carpentry and masonary spec.then. My email is bobkat582000@yahoo.com

What beautiful pictures you have on my old home town! You have a picture of High Street Baptist Church in Limestone and I saw that you also attended there as a child. I did too! Infact, we got married there! I would love to hear from you see more beautiful pictures of my home town area. ( I lived in Caribou but rode a bus to the church in Limestone) Thanks for the great memories. Sherri Robertson jimsherrirob@charter.net

Thank you so much for your wonderful pics of Loring AfB. I have been searching the web for pictures or information about the base and I just about cried when I found your website. Seeing the pathways where I used to play and the treeline behind Hickam Dr really threw me for a loop. My family even has the same picture of the farm house. My dad was stationed in Loring from 1955-58. I still have vivid dreams about the woods surrounding the housing area where we used to play and build forts. Again, thanks for the pics.

HI! I stumbled across your photo album and checked out the pictures from Loring. I am from New Sweden, Maine and met my husband while he was stationed at Loring. We lived on base for four years. I still go home almost every summer to see my family and always take a trip out to base. I'll be posting pictures of the area after I go home this summer. I think it's really sad to see the base this way now . I miss the old base. Not only did I live there as an adult but it was a part of my life as a child as well. My step-dad was stationed there in the early 70's, and although we had a house in New Sweden, I did spend a great deal of time on base at friend's houses. My two daughters were born in the hospital(the new one..it's one of the DFAS buildings now)and my husband worked at the electric plant.Oh yeah...the lake is called Malabeam..and they have a campground available...here is a link to the website. http://www.mainerec.com/malabeam.shtml I enjoyed viewing you pictures. Thank you!

The lake you have in the picture was originally called "Carter's Lake" in the 1960's....and then the Air Force renamed it to "Malabeam&qu ot;...and it later becmae the Malabeam Campground in the early 80's. We camped there just a few years ago...but it's now closed. The lake to the far left (not in your picture) is called "Green Lake" . I grew up on Loring and lived on Base from 1959 - 1979...enjoyed seeing your pictures...also went to Harrison and Damon schools on base...~ 3 years behind you from what I can tell.

Thanks for the pictures. They brought back some memories from my childhood when my dad was stationed there. I especially liked to see those pathways. I spent alot of time playing in those woods off the path. (Of course we wouldn't think of letting little girls go off by themselves like that today.) A little sad to see many things gone and just open fields.
