I am sitting here with tears rolling down my face. I lived at Bitburg in the late 50's for 3 years with my parents and 3 siblings. I have always wanted to see the area again and was afraid to because I just knew so much had changed. But that theater looks so much like the one I went to as a child. And I recognized the housing...we lived in the set of buildings that had the only hill for sledding...it was actually the road leading down into the complex but it was sure a blast. I would have loved to have seen that again but always afraid it would erase the memories I had. I remember two black stone objects straight out into the field as you came into the complex...we would climb into the pipes and crawl through them...dangerous I am sure now...but hopefully those were not for sewer at the time. UGHHH! My father worked at the hospital and stayed in the military for 30 years. They are now retired and living in Florida. He's now 80 years old. I remember once I play hookie from school and he opened the hospital door and asked what I was doing. I fibbed and said we were on a field trip. I had a jar just filled with what I remember to be June Bugs. When we first moved there we lived in Wiesbaden...my school bus was a Volkswagen van. There was a gate with guards that we had to pass through on our way to Wiesbaden I believe over a fast moving river...a river I will never forget but thanks to my sister I am still alive today after a slip. I remember during the night having to go into the basement of the building which was used for family storage...it was for air raid warnings and testing I believe. I remember hearing the sirens going off. My parents said that usually last for an hour and then we were able to go back upstairs to our homes. These pictures have me so emotional but I thank you so very much for posting them. I am saving them and will share them with my family. You've made me so very happy. With heartfelt thanks...Cindy

Wow! I couldn't believe my eyes...pictures from Bitburg and Spang...I was stationed the '97 to '99 as a nurse in the base hospital. The pictures are such a wonderful reminder of one of the best times of my career. Thanks!

Like the others I also stumbled upon your site by accident. Was at Bitburg from 83 to 87, our son was born at the base hospital. During our tour there it was home to the 22nd, 53rd and 525 TFS. Your photos sure brought back lots of very pleasant memories. Thank you for putting up your site. Dave

I was so thrilled to find your photos. Thanks so much for a stroll down memory lane. I was stationed at Bit (labor and delivery nurse for 2 years 1988-1990) and loved every minute of it. Some things have not changed, but many things have. Thanks again for taking me back.

Super shots, thanks a mil! I was stationed w/32d AADCOM from '84 - '88, and had a great time at Bit. Pic #31 was built for a Patriot unit that came over from Ft. Bliss. Thanks again.

WOW !! This brought back some great memories. I didnt think I would get to see my old barracks again (Army area), but you showed the road and the actual building I lived in from 92 - 94 when we were moved to Hanau due to the drawdown. This was my first assignment out of boot and it is still very special to me. Thank you.

I lived there from 1990 until sept 1994 (when they closed the base). I was only 11 then, but i really missed that place. I remembered back then I was so pissed off that the air force closed bitburg and left spangdalem open. It looks like not much has changed; I lived in bldg 36 (of the housing area) and I can still remember running to the burger bar in the bx area. it would take me about 6 minutes to get there if i ran. thanks for the memories.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I was stationed at Bitburg AB 1988-1990 and seeing these pictures brought back so many wonderful memories. It was one of the best times of my life and it is so good to know that most of the buildings are exactly as they were 15 years ago. Thanks again!

Loved the pictures, they brought back memories. We only got to stay 11 months at Spang, but enjoyed every minute.

Hi, I found your website by accident - just looking for pics of Bit hospital, my son was born there, need them for the scrapbook- and was so excited to see your pics and made me realize how much I miss Germany and Bit/Spang. We just got home in June 2004. Funny, Carmen (cars1979s) and I are best friends, and she's never told me about your site, great minds think alike, I guess... Anyway, thanks for the great pics, we were there for 3 years and didn't think to take some of the ones you have on here... I've sent a link to alot of our family so they can actually see some of the things my husband and I told them about.... Take Care!

I was stationed in Bitburg in the early 90's, was there until they closed it. So did they reopen it or combine it with Spang? And that building you say is a hotel now (used to be Army) - is correct. It was an Army site, that was there barracks and they had a small mess hall. Please respond, love looking at the pictures, brings back great Air Force memories. Take care! Sharlene
