  • A quick reminder for folks writing to ask for copies of the pics - to get prints of the pics, you go through Webshots, download them, and then print them. Thanks for your feedback! Bests, Jim Ward-Nichols, Lawrence, KS, USA

  • Jaybird - yes, I hung out with Eric and Mickey (Danny's younger brothers). And the last name was Green, not Greene. Oh - and "Grace and Pepper" (Danny's parents) didn't work there. They owned a cabin there. Hope this helps and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit!

  • Hi - this is sort of weird, but I went to Tabor Lake frequently as a small child during 1972 & 1973 --in the winter. My uncle's name is Danny Greene and I think his parents worked there. I was only in kindergarten at the time. I actually lived on Tabor Road (right next to the fire station/animal hospital, and across the street from Hoovers). Anyway, I learned how to ice fish on Tabor Lake with my Dad. We caught lots of perch and pickerel. The great thing was, we were always the only 2 people there in January. I would go to the Lake now and again in the summer with my Aunt. The sliding board seemed soooo high. Looking at these pictures really brought back a lot of memories. I don't know any of the people having fun in the pictures, but they all look familiar --if you know you what I mean. Thanks.

  • Hello again! I expect to load some new pictures later on in the year (2007). To get prints of the pics, you go through Webshots, download them, and then print them. I said that people could give me the pic name and I will tell them what and/or who is in the pic. So... if you need to know anything about the pics you've listed, email me at jlwn111@hotmail.com. And hey, thanks for your feedback! Bests, Jim Ward-Nichols, Sedona, AZ, USA

  • MJVW & Bolserlegirl: Thanks for the recent comments. And here I thought there wouldn't be ANY comments! Huh! Also --- Bolsterlegirl --- got your e-mail to my Hotmail account. I don't do the "friends" thing here at Webshots, but if you want specific pics, let me know and I can sent them to you at your metrocast.net address. You'll need to add jlwn111@hotmail.com to your "safe" list. Also - I'm putting up around 100 more shots of The Old Days before the end of the year. I will try to find more pics of Bill and Hazel for that batch. And hey, thanks for your kind words!

I have a lot of memories from tabor lake as a child and loved seeing the old pictures of them and their cabin. If you have more of the family in your scrap book I would love to see them. I think this web site you have done is great. Thanks for the walk down memorie Lane !!!! Let me know if you post more pics. mthbu4@metrocast.net

  • It is amazing how little the place has changed since we were there in the fifties. Even some of the people are the same or descendants of the same.

  • THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE TABOR LAKE. This year, again, the VAn Winkle clan, cabin #31, had their family reunion at Parsippany Hilton and some of us spent Friday afternoon on the beach and in the water. We even joined them for "Pizza on the Beach"

  • Message from Jim W-N: Over 300 views last week?! Hmmmmmm. Is someone doing a project? Just curious why there was such a spike. HUH!

  • This year the Van Winkles had a reunion at the Parsippany Hilton. We took Saturday afternoon to go to Tabor Lake and show the newest generation what we were all talking about when we talked abaout THE LAKE. It WAS and IS a special place. It has not changed. What a nostalgic trip it was for me and my siblings. Some of our children had spent time there and were also finding it nostalgic. Then there was the newest generation who were equally interested in the place. My daughter, Stephanie, thought it was a shame that Emma and Rip sold the place as she would love to have a place there. We told Susan Anastario about it and perhaps if a cabin comes up for sale, we will be visiting again at THE LAKE. By the way, Rip died in 1984, but Emma is still going strong at 96 years old last August 22. She does not look her age, and only just now needs minimal assist with dressing, bathing and meal prep. She has her own apartment and pat time help. She is amazing and also made the reunion at Parsippany. How about a TABOT LAKE dinner like we used to have in the winter, where we all said "you look differeent with clothes on." Great to be able to reminisce. Mary Jo Van Winkle Dapice

  • Cabin 31. Built in 1949 by the Van Winkles. Sold to Evans (family friends of ours from Newton, NJ) in 1974. They only had it for about a year or two. Cabin histories from 1974-present are being compiled and will be added to the site later on in the year. Thanks for stopping by. HEY - MAYBE GUESTBOOKS AREN'T SO BAD AFTER ALL! :-)

  • Hi Jim! I'm the one who emailed you a while ago (the granddaughter of emma & Rip Van Winkle in cabin #??). My grandparents are at the close end of the table. Very cool to see them in someone else's pictures. Thanks again for the memories! Debbie Carnes Reilly

  • I don't expect many guestbook entries. I'm not really a big fan of guestbooks in general, actually. If WEBSHOTS had an option for disabling it, I would disable it. But since I can't disable it, this is OUR GUESTBOOK (duh). I will tell you that these pictures all came from several different photo albums that belonged to my grandfather, The Rev. L.F. Nichols. There are hundreds more that I will post over time. If you want to know more about a photo or group of photos, send me the photo number (right underneath the picture) and I will send you the rather elaborate captions that my Grandfather had put under each. I'll give you the names of the people in the photos and try to answer any other questions you might have. And remember this: THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE TABOR LAKE! There's not! Check MapQuest! I swear, it's NOT there! :-) Jim Ward-Nichols Lawrence, KS, USA
