Ciao! Keith in Utah

Ahh... I can't leave you misinformed. Our little friendly waving beach crabs are called Fiddler Crabs. I just found this out from my native Floridian co-worker. They kept popping out of little finger-size holes in the sand. About 50 feet further down the beach, we discovered about four fist-sized holes with little crab-like footprints all around them. We had no desire to see the ones that lived there venture out! Ha!

Thank you, Alberto, for your lengthy and informative guestbook entry. It was very helpful. My daughter has a Minolta X700 with six, or so, lense attachments that she is going to let me practice on (it's an old one she obtained used). I held it in my hands and had no idea what to do with it (I've only ever used "point and shoot" cameras)! Fortunately, she gave me some hands-on instruction. She's not nearly as seasoned as you are, but at least had some formal training in college. We went exploring at Fort Myers Beach last evening after work. The weather was not conducive to beautiful photography, but we had fun anyway. We found ourselves in the midst of a colony of Sand Sifters (little crabs), and were entertained for over half an hour with their claw waving and scurrying about! A friend of mine is selling his Nikon N50 at a reasonable price (no attachments, though), and I may go for it. It's a little more forgiving, in that it has some auto features I can rely on when the manual adjustments send me for a loop. Hey, as a side note, I like to visualize who I'm corresponding with - so I was fortunate to spot you in one of your South Africa pics. If you have the same inclination, you can find a fairly accurate picture of my family at the Eileen's 100th Birthday album (my husband's grandmother). It'll be titled "Joe, Pam and Kristiina with Grandma" or something close to that. Anyway... I truly appreciate the time you took to send so much information. In 10 days I'm heading to North Carolina and Georgia and hope to get some nice mountain scenes. I'll have to get in some more practice before I go. Whether I end up taking the Minolta or Nikon, I'll have my old one with me as backup! Ciao, Alberto, and thanks again! Pam

Alberto, you're shots are fabulous! They make me want to hurry to visit each of those places. I discovered you initially by taking a look at your South Africa pictures, and you soon became my first "favorite member." I enjoy photography and desire to make it a serious hobby, as well. Soon I'll take some courses so I can learn to do it well. What tips do you have for a beginner? Thanks, Alberto - you are truly talented.

I returned for a visit to Aosta this spring. I was there in the spring of 2000 also. Thanks for the pictures that give me an idea of how beautiful Aosta must be in autumn also. By the way, I enjoyed the Scotland photos too. I was there in 2001. Looks like we travel in some of the same circles!
