I have really enjoyed your videos and photos of Hahn. We were stationed there from 1979-1985. We lived in the first building on the left as you go into housing from the base proper. I just wanted to let you know that the 3rd picture from the left on page nine is not the old command post. The command post was an underground bunker, with grass on top. They used to let sheep graze on it to "mow" the grass. My ex husband worked in it . The guys called it the mushroom factory. :-))

Sean, I in the 50 EMS from 82-86 and just returned from Germany spring 2007. I intended to go to the Olde AFB to recap the times, but could not bring myself to go. Althought I hated the exersizes and alerts, I loved the location, the people both national and airmen, the wine and beer and most of all the memories. I was a young airman first duty station, extented twice and was there during the HIGHEST MARK RATES 3.25 to 1.00 and saw it decend to 1.79 to 1.00. I wished that I did go, but your picture has offer me the opportunity to return. I would like to download your picture. May I?

Hahn the rock was home 1977-82,83. Stayed busy;great photos remind me of all the hours I put in driving supplies all over the base. Recall slippin'slidin' up 6911 hill at times. Had freinds in CRS,PMEL, flt simulator, Comm Sq, transportation, DCM complex (angled road) weather was something. Recall the 'circle' of main base right well. Coming in from Lautzenhausen and swinging up if I recall big Supply Hangar on right, little command post entrance on the left as we go round, then SPs on left, NCO club up on the right, chow hall just past SPs?, post office across (girls dorm upstairs?), army barracks just prior to that?, after girls dorm, church, recreation center? round left Dorm 310, 313? flightline always to the right with hangars, goind round circle, CBPO was on right, college offices too, before hospital on right, then gym/BX. etc? (maybe I dreamt the whole thing!) Course there was the wine, food and fun (rodeo!)and Sardinia!

Thank for the great shots. Brought back a lot of memories. I was at Hahn from 85-88 (50th SUPS) in fuels, as an aircraft refueler. I miss those wine fests, delicious cheap bier at the beverage store on-base, and Walter's. Take care!

I served at Hahn from 80-82; also called the rock. My best memories were the winefests, Morbach duty and the Dolly Bar and 1st G. Nice pictures that bring back lots of memories.

I was stationed at Hahn from 1977-1979. called it "The Rock" SPS , I remember the Commander was busted for blackmarketing coffee then. was also stationed at Morbach. that was the best duty of all. shot pool and played cards all night. better than the flight line. miss the 1st G. lots of great memories there. actully got in touch with Herr Kroth that i bought wine from in Briedel. he ships to the USA.

Much thanks for the photos, Hahn has changed a lot since I last saw it. I didn't recognize very much in the videos. Sad to see it all overgrown, but then most of the bases I was at are now all abandoned and overgrown.

Sean Not exactly how I remember it. I was there in 68-69. A morbach troop. Did you get to Morbach where the old Bomb Dump was? It;s now a wind farm. Paul G Huber paulghuber@msn.com

the avionics castle as you say, Avionic Harden Facility, housed the CRS Squadren Automatic Test station Shop, and Pod Shop it was built in the mid 80's and the tower you refer to is the air inlet tower. the building was built within the outer structure you see there between the two structors over 25 feet of concrete. It is great to see the old base and it brings back great memeories thanks for posting.

Hi, Myself and my ex-husband were both in the 50th SPS from 90-92. It's amazing to see pics from a place that sometimes doesn't seem real. (It really does feel like we were there a lifetime ago). But looking back, espically at the pics of the SP dorms.........wow, that's about all I can come up with. Thank you so much for sharing.

I was at Hahn from 88-90 in the 50th SPS as well. Seeing the WSA again brings back alot of memories. I've driven hundreds if not thousands of miles around those shelters as an ART member. As for the large hangar next to the QRA, It was just a maintenance building for the F-16's. I remeber all to well a cold foggy night I spent guarding the entrance to it when a crashed F16 was being held there by the accident investigation team. I got on post just as the team left and did not get off until 12 hrs later when they showed up in the morning. Th Capt. leading the team was shocked that some one was posted there all night with no vehicle or gate shack to protect them from the elements! Such was the life of a Ramp Rat!

I was in the 550th SPS, 88-90. Bldg 301, 302, 303 were Security Police dorms. In your pics, of Hahn, page 4, the title "going back up the road toward the tower" has all 3 bldgs in it. Bldg 302 has two windows on the ground floor. That was the SP armory. It also had the SP Lounge. In 1990 they got a new armory and bulding at the end of that road (North I think) and it was closeer to the flight line and I think you could see the tower and old fire dept. It is on the road coming in from the main gate. On your page 5, the title is "I got into the dump again...I know what these shelters sed to hold"...Hmm, I agree, it's a little un-conventional. LOL The single sided dump was much more "conventional& quot;.
