Album Description:

The largest city in NH, Manchester, also known as the QUEEN CITY, attracted 23,000 French-Canadians, who made up 40% of the Manchester, NH population by 1900. They came because of the work available in the mills along the Merrimack River.

    • Such a wonderfull collection of photos. I wonder if anyone would know of a web site in manchester, where I could post a unidentified old family photo? The family name could be Caissie. The only information on it is: Pigeon Studio, Mass. Thank you!

    • shaye52, I've left you a message on your Webshots site. Am repeating myself here.... Will be willing to look up any info you need re: the BUREAU surname considering you must be a BUIREAU also. Send me an email to lineage42@hotmail.com with as much info as you can re: your parents (including spouse's name), grandparents, etc. & I'll see what I can find. Of course, would certainly appreciate any photos of the city that you'd care to share with our viewers. You could upload them to your Webshots site & I could pick them up there, of you may eventually send them to me. So, do write & I'll respond pronto.

    • In Berlin, New Hampshire , until February last year I had family there. Mrs. Odette Papineau-Couture from Montreal, married Mr. Gerard Morin. You may find photos of her , her son & husband in one of my albums . Visit my pages. I love to visit New Hampshire year after year. I am always amazed even after all these years , how many people are of French origin even in Berlin. They are so friendly. Keep on the Good work. http://community.webshots.com/photo/144586240/144596144xRlKTy

    • Hi! My mother's family came from around Sherbrooke, Quebec in the 1700's, I think. Do you have any Collettes or Constantines in your family? It seems almost all of us are related somehow.

    • Am always glad to share whatever pictures and info that come my way. The main purpose of these albums is to help anyone researching their French-Canadian (QC) relatives and ancestors as well as bring enjoyment to all, who have visited Manchester, NH and/or QC. These pictures may entice them to learn from the past, their past. I know it has helped me understand my family dynamics thruout the years, i.e., the why's & wherefore's of family interactions or of their absence.

    • Hi, I got your message yesterday about the records. Could you see if you can find Corinne Bourgeois % Paul Cyr's marriage? Was Paul from NH too? Paul was not there while Wilfred & siblings grew up. ? if he died, left, divorce, or what. She married John Fortin 2nd.(it was wrong somewhere) Poor Corinne gets left out of her parents list of children all the time. I do have a few things, but, not good with computer, send me your address and I'll send you copies. My e-mail contid22@aol.com Thanks, Denise
